Referees

Watching the bledsloe and one thing I noticed is the referee when identifying a player would say "black no 10"...in the NRL they say the name of the player.....my thought is this is the way to go....

  • Apart from the constant technical penalties it's generally a better refereed game.
  • Wouldn't go down to well with the PC brigade .
  • Yeh it's probably come to that. Refs have to brought too much emotion to the way they ref. Although, I'd prefer they not refer to whoever is in the bunker as mate. Only good ref is that Atkins bloke. The rest I wouldn't even want ref'ing undet 10''s.
  • Notice how they are also respected.
  • Regardless of what you think of the code (and park the technical nature and kicking for a sec), watching that game... and really any high level rugby game... just shows that from a referee and player respect perspective, Rugby is absolutely professional and we are just watching mungo-ball every weekend.

Absolute respect for the refs, players refer to the ONE ref as 'sir', never any screaming and carrying on at the ref, refs refer to every player by number, decisions (which at the breakdown are far more complicated and difficult) are made quickly etc... I don't know whether it is absolute ignorance that sees the NRL unable to replicate this or just sheer incompetence.
