These ruck penalties are a blight on the game, the referees give no indication what there for, and usually nothing looks deserving of a penalty.
What I do observe is that referees usually favour the leading teams over the lesser teams and can penalise teams out of the match easily with no scrutiny and definitely no criticism allowed from the coaches.
Another thing they don't penalise is players walking off the mark then playing the ball. Look at some teams, they are obviously coached to do it. The advantage is you have one less or no markers or the tackler is trying to get off, the attacking player walks forward, causing the tackler to 'interfere' with the play the ball and they get penalised. What happened to walking off the mark penalty!
They will drive people away from the game if they are not careful! We don't want to end up like yawnion where games are won on how many penalty goals you can kick.

We used to get crucified by the refs under Kearney, OK crap coach. We also got crucified by the refs under Stuart, once again we can put it down to poor coaching. Now we have BA, who most people agree is a very good coach, yet we still cop it from the refs. 3 coaches same result, what's really going on here??
Anyone notice that little prick lays the boot into parra every chance he gets.
Id say the Voldermorts hate Parra.
Then these c@cksuking refs go ahead and give us a bunch of penalties at the end of the game when it's too late, just to even out the penalty count.
That may work Charles but it can also be open to abuse. If you are working it out from your own line the defence can risk standing inside the 10 or attempt a strip, knowing that a penalty would only mean another set of 6 with no field position advantage gained.
klein has taken over from shayne pain very nicely.....
I hear they live together.
