Recruitment or Juniors

I have noticed that BA is keen on recruiting older players (especially forwards), whilst letting our young forwards go. Personally I think this is a big mistake. I know we have a lot of juniors and I guess some have not turned out to be as good as we all wished, but there are a lot of ex-eel juniors going round. Like most other punters on this site, I've enjoyed following the career of some of our juniors.

We have recruited:

Watmough (31)

Richard Fa'aoso (30)

Danny Wicks (29)

Beau Scott (31 in May)

We also re-signed Gower who turns 30 next month.

It's upsetting to hear rumours that Pauli is going and Moeroa looks to be on the outer.

I would prefer to keep our juniors, we don't need 5 forwards 30yo and older.

Big Kev i dont think Moeroa is going anywhere. Are we willing to wait for Pauli to develop or hang on and wait? To me he reminds me of Tony Williams. Hes not the type of player i would have in my side. He maybe needs a slap across the face from Tommy Radonikis before he runs out

  I'm going to guess you're basing your opinion on Pauli from 2014. He's been running much harder in 2015. He will always have defensive problems on the edge because of his size but he's been trying hard from marker which is all you can ask of him.

Can't mock wicks or Fa'aoso, both earning their keep at parra. Choc will come good. Round 9- out of 26. So much opportunity for parra to come back. Moeroa isn't on the outer, think about when he was introduced last year. Late in the season, still so young and just resigned. Not sure about Pauli have to wait and see.

From memory the club went down that path in the early 90's of promoting and keeping our juniors hoping that they would be the next generation 1st graders. Sadly that went very pear shaped when most of them didn't live up to expectations and we copped some real floggings on the field.

In the modern game I think it has to be a mix of experience and youth to get a balanced / competitive team. We have always had promising Jnrs coming through at various stages you can't keep em all. I'm not sure what Pauli Pauli's current situation is and I hope the club keeps him but time will tell and I will back BA's judgement on that. Tep just signed by all accounts a very handsome contract extension and will not be going anywhere.

I think it's a fact of while we want to keep our juniors, we also can't field a whole pack of juniors not up to NRL level or we'll get dominated. Gotta have a mix.
