Recruitment Fail if Junior Leaves

With the speculation that Junior will be released a year early to Raiders to accommodate Jennings would constitute a huge fail imo.

I'm not too worried about Pauli, a player of undoubted ability but little heart, going to the Knights, However, the loss of Junior would prove very costly. He is our only dynamic and largest forward in the squad. All the other props, Alvaro, O'Brien, Moeroa, Wicks, Gower and Mannah are just tradesmen. Good solid players but not impact players in the mould of Scott, Tamou, JWH and Bromwich to name a few. Good teams need these impact players to create space for the backs to work. As shown with Moanly last year, if you have ordinary forwards the best backs in the comp can do little.

All teams that end up in the 8 at seasons end, and more importantly play in the gf, have good forwards, good halves but not necessarily good but solid backs.

It is an undeniable truth that good forwards win matches, not good backs. That's the reason why keeping Junior is the lynch pin in Parra's march to the finals..

  • Deffinetly need him this season
  • Mate, if found guilty of assault you are aware that he may very well spend the season on the sidelines, right?

    • Steve, if Junior punched you do you think you would be standing and making a phone call. He is so powerful that your head would be knocked clear off your neck!

  • So Jenko, Foran, Gutherson, Gordon, Scott are not a plus as far as recruitment go? Junior would be good to keep but we have others who can do the job

    • Stay out of this mate this is a panic blog ok ;)

  • He's not gone yet he is here for 2016 he hasn't signed for them
  • What is the story with Paulo and road rage incident. Does he not have a pending court case that could see him banned from the NRL? Or has that matter been settled?

  • I agree with Mullet . So far he's another case of classic shoulda , coulda , woulda . If our recruitment who so far seem to have the runs on the board decide he's replaceable then so be it .
  • Sam Burgess for Souths and JWH for the Roosters... they were the X factor players which won those close games.

I remember last year we almost beat the Rooster, but JWH smashed us toward the end of the game. My memory's a little hazy, but I remember him steamrolling through and scoring a try... no one was going to stop him in that moment.

  • I want to keep Junior. But hypothetically, if he has signed in 2017, and keeping him in 2016 would have cost us getting Jennings for four years, I would release him. Basically sacrificing one year from a very good prop for 4 years from an elite centre. I'm not saying this is the scenario (I'm hoping it's not and we keep Junior this year and beyond) but if it was this scenario I could understand the decision
