What concerns me most is the recruitment and retention such as:
- Signing old players to a lucrative contract for far too long
- The potential loss of a few good juniors, Pauli comes to mind
- The re-signing of players not worth retaining, Toutai as an example
- The continual lack of recruiting good established players. This is my greatest concern, why is it that clubs like Raiders can recruit BJ Lielua and apparently James Tamou, two positions we badly need to fill, and we have Foran only. Unless we have good forwards the halves cannot ply their trade. Unless we have good backs we cannot score tries.
Is there a plan to fill the positions that we are weak in? It doesn't appear so!

1. Other than Anthony Watmough, who else is a "old player" on a lucrative contract? Scott was signed for a touch more than darcy lussick. An Australian and NSW rep player signed for 50k more than a no name forward who can barely make the team for City.
2. Key word. Potential loss. As far as i can see, only one junior is at risk of leaving (Pauli) whos getting massive offers from the tigers to join. Another blog here asked the question, would you pay overs for Pauli, who has an amazing potential, but still needs development? What if we end up with another Loko on our hands? I think we should definitely re-sign Pauli, but depends on the price in the end.
3. I agree with completely, I'm glad Toutai is on a second tier contract, but Seffa shouldn't have been signed.
4. Foran, Scott, Takarangi, Robinson, Watmough. All well established NRL players, not game breakers, not "x-factor" players, but players with NRL experience.
Just cause you don't know or can't see a plan, doesn't mean there isn't one.
i would of bought bj instead of taka
Someone with some commonsense. We can't keep everyone or sign everyone you like.
Wes how do you know Scott signed for just over Lussick.I have it on good authority that Scott has signed for a lot more money than you suggest.
i think we are signing older players hoping that they will teach the younger players the ropes but i fear that we are still a retirement village.
Pauli is no Loko , he has his shit together and he will make a top NRL player .
But BJ wasn't available last year. BJ still isn't available now. His contract finishes at the end of this year.
I'd be over the moon if we signed Joey for next year, he's such a dominate and quick centre, but the fact is that last year that couldn't have happened and we signed the best of what was left after discovering we had a mil extra in our salary cap due to hayne leaving.
But who would you have used in centre spots over the last 6 months and rest of the year whilst BJ under contract!?
You are kidding aren't you? Not only was BJ NOT on the market, you do realise you cant just decide to "buy" a player right?
To gain a player, an established in demand player, takes a lot of negotiation and planning from a team of people to convince that player that you have the right tools and environment to help them further their career for the better. Money comes into it yes but there are lots of clubs with cash.
These comments are just dribble! You don't just "buy" players like selecting a can of coke at the supermarket to quench your thirst.
Look at the players weve lost Loko, Horo, T-Rex etc, cant keep them all, most arnt setting the world on fire. Astute retention is needed, who will really blossom, what positions do we need to strengthen, replenish. Dont just buy the first "next best thing", thought and purpose,is required. Put more into the guys weve got.My only concern is other teams seem to blood their up and comers earlier, than us I realise its a fine line, we dont want to bring players on too early , but surely some are ready and if not why ?
They have Stuart we don't and everyone wants to play for Stuart!!
