Record Breaking Mitch Moses

Just want to say big congratulations to Mitch on his record breaking 719 kicking metres last night. Was absolutely outstanding last night and was happy doing the dirty work which supported Cleary perfectly. That's 2 x deciders Mitch has won at Suncorp. If our club can get their shit together we have a halfback that can win big games.

  • He does have one of the best boots in the comp. Pinned us on our line all night lol

  • Yeah nah. Laurie Daley is the one the one that deserves the adulation more than anyone.

Hes the guy that took all the pressure & beat up in the media.Hes was directly responsible for making the changes in selection and stuck with Moses and alike when the media questioned his selections and tactics.

Nevermind the Moses congratulations it means nothing congratulations Laurie Daley what a way for a champion to go out well done son.

    • I think all this is being "over thought" Coryn.

It was not hard to figure out that if NSW could dominate in the forwards, the halves would dominate off the back of it.

Think about it when Qld dominated first two games, Walker and Munster had a ball, the reverse happens and we have a new ball game. NSW Pack with the best forward in the world and then the able support of Martin, Young, Yeo, Fonua Blake, Cameron Murray, made it a pack of enormous quality if they all decided that they would work together, there was also a good chance that with the best half in the game, they would be a monster to beat.

Don't kid yourself Daley was not key, just happen to have his name on the team sheet, he is not a great coach just because NSW won.

The lesson to be learnt is before we go banging on about our halves, check to see how our forwards went,

Moses did good last night, showed up as a key man with the boot, but defensively he tried hard but missed a lot. His passing was very special in terms of speed and again demonstrates how we have to have good players outside of him i.e. Burton and a quality centre. Bradman Best surprised me with his hands and his pace, out running Ponga (he had the ball) and Moses going flat out keeping up with him tells me Best is underated for what he could be. One for the fantasy guys but I think that ship sailed a year ago?..... it also tells us that Moses still has plenty of pace left......he needs to follow the ball, repeatedly on his side of the ruck he was not there in support.....Cleary was everywhere and you can be nearly assured if there is a break, Cleary is trailing through...... Ryles tried to impress this upon Moses at the end of last year, i.e. using his speed in support plays, rather than trying to make the breaks himself.

Let's hope Moses goes to school (again) off the back of this.

      • Mate coaches alot of them crumble in his situation.

I give him cudos because of it now.I preface that comment by saying is he the most tactically astute guy,no he isn't but I've seen guys with obvious strategies in many guises lose games and  series vs maroons with much higher credentials than his.

  • Agreed. And people on here want to see the back of him! I really don't get it, and would question their real allegiance.

    • Moses is a top tier halfback and especially when you surround him with strike outside and a forward pack. Unfortunately at Parra we surround him with nsw cup players 🤣

  • I've been banging on about it for years but your kicking game is THE most important ingredient to origin. Last night NSW effectively used Moses to set it up while Cleary took over in attacking zones. They used both of their halves to their strengths and was the key ingredient last night. There were some great performances by our forwards, particularly Haas and Liam Martin ( oh boy what a performance) but the game was set up by a perfect balance in Moses and Cleary. I don't know who should get credit for the game plan but Loz is the head coach so he certainly deserves praise for that.

    • I think the main difference is that the dummy half was looking for Moses (predestined) whereas previously Cleary basically hogged his overall ownership, I would suggest that Cleary also learnt something from this.

This was the game plan and credit to the coach is warranted circumstantially, but lets not get carried away, if NSW understood  origin the way they do now (finally?????) then it becomes something more.....NSW actually got it, whether they retain it is something that will keep Origin interesting again next year!

      • I don't think it was a matter of Cleary hogging or Robson determining who was kicking. There was an obvious shift between game 2 and 3 where the clear plan was for Moses to be the predominant kicker within our own half then Cleary takes over in the attacking zones. Even if it wasn't Lozs idea as head coach he facilitated the change in tactic and it worked sensationally. And for all those that said Strange should've been the 6 were wrong and I was right so ner ner ne ner ner 😜

        • That obviously appears comfortable to you AE, I don't have a problem when I am wrong, I actually tipped NSW last night, even explaining how they would do it.....but doesn't mean my ego (surprise to many on here) is inflated because of it..... I do get pleasure out of solving problems but and that is why I am very contrarian and looking for faults in my thinking......i.e. playing the devils advocate........

I will stay on record by the way and say that Cleary and Moses do not compliment each other in Origin and probably not in any environ. The fact that the two of them being extremely intelligent footballers means they were able to work it out so the team could still go forward was excellent on both parts.
