Rd 6 Pre-Game Stats Blog v Warriors

One of the few teams that we have a decent record against overall but still a relatively poor record at Mt Smart Stadium. We can take confidence from a recent big win there last year but can't count on that to get us over the line.
Interesting stats here so take them in, absorb & enjoy.

  • It's been a tough opening to the season. The premiers, then we go to Canberra and NZ where we have poor records. It is going to be hard to win this one, but let's hope the recent signing spree has lifted the boys. I reckon Gutho will have a blinder, showing his coach he has the goods.

Semi and French are the only current players anywhere near the top of the table above. That probably means we'll be relying on them to get over again on Saturday.

    • The Warriors are certainly a beatable side, given you never know which team of theirs is going to show up. That said, they probably have the best spine in the competition, all of whom are capable of changing a game in the blink of an eye.

The forward battle, as Hamish says below, is where it'll be won and if we can get that platform right, we can overpower their weaker and poorer defenders in the outside backs. Kata especially, as been copping heat left, right & centre from Warriors fans this year.

    • Guess it'll be even harder as one of those two form players for us is out...
  • I'd like to see Brown start at lock again, and Moeroa back to his edge spot, with the Tank off the bench.

More minutes for Vave as well.

If we can beat Warriors in the ruck and assert dominance, their outside backs are very average.

Full 80 minute performance needed though, because when Warriors get one try, they usually put on more very quickly.

    • Yes, Franky P starting just baffles me. Obviously, he performed better last week but he just can't hit a hole like you need a back-rower to do anymore.

  • Stats, stats & more stats against the Warriors.

Read, absorb & enjoy. As always, if there's a stat you want to know that isn't there, ask away and you shall receive a gloriously detailed answer.

  • I don't think it'll affect them too much, if at all.

  • No love for the stats today? They're good! And if you want to see more, just ask! :)

  • Hey Ricky, you have Eric Grothe on there twice. Senior would not have played against them, so this is all Junior. That pushes him up the list a bit.

In fact when you look at these stats every week it's clear that Hayne has carried us through a difficult period. He is often near the top of the table. Without his try scoring we probably get a couple more spoons to the collection.

    • Yes, I noticed that just after you mentioned it, so thanks, LE.

S'all good. 4 tries for the Guru Jr. instead of the three.

To be fair, he did carry the team in what were some significantly average rosters.
