Rd 16 Injury Update - 2 return + Greig season NOT over

Ryan Matterson and Joe Ofahengaue are both available for selection in Round 16 after overcoming calf injuries sustained over the past month. The Eels' squad to face the Sea Eagles on Saturday will be named at 4pm on Tuesday.

Following scans, it is expected that Wiremu Greig will miss another six weeks with a Lisfranc (foot) injury. He is anticipated to return around Round 22.

Josh Hodgson is awaiting scan results to determine the severity of a neck injury which ruled him out of the Eels' win over the Bulldogs on Monday.

  • Interesting to see what happens if JH does not play.

    • Hands plays full 80, maybe Yates features in the 22 if fit.

      • I am pretty sure Yates got a more severe injury to his leg than a couple weeks. I would honestly consider Carty 6 and Asi 7 in defence. Matto can start in the backrow with Maka and Ogden good enough to be our bench props with Ofa starting for junior. In attack Gutho just gets more invovled with potentially Simmo floating

        • Yeah don't mind Carty at 6. Saw on a site they predicted Rankin at 7, nearly popped a rib laughing so hard.

I think BA will go with Gutho at 6.

          • Same I think that's what BA will do. I just hate Gutho not a fb with how important he is for our defence. But since we have Dunster who will play wing and Simmo/Russel who can play fb, I think BA will go this route

  • That's really good news with Greig. How good would a bench of Asi, Greig, Cartwright and Ofa look!

That also depends if Brown has his charges dropped and is allowed to play again, otherwise Asi to keep playing 5/8th

    • Hmmm I'm not convinced he'll be back. Lisfranc injuries are super tricky to rehabilitate. Fingers crossed.

      • Yeah, if Ogden, Joe-O, Moretti et al continue to perform I wouldn't risk him unnecessarily

    • I think Greig will take a while to warm up to his pre injury form. Fitness has always been a worry for him and getting a foot injury will make it hard for him to maintain fitness let alone match fitness. Given our forward depth and how good Maka and Ogden are playing, I wonder if BA will consider getting Grieg into match fitness and form through nsw cup.

      • I think him getting a full preseason has to be the priority. He's become far too valuable in a short space of time.
