Ray Stone

I have to say im a big stone fan i was really pleased with what he brought to the team once he got on he hit hard and ran with intent something that is a Stone trademark in the lower grades.

He did something very well that i noticed it was his line speed its a very important part of defense that guy who gets up in the opposition faces ready for contact its something we have lacked for sometime the last person with good line speed was peats maybe Kaysa.

Alot to like about young stone hopefully he gets more chances to show what he can do.

  • He was up against hes former club but yes he did go all right

    And hope we keep him

  • I really hope he gets kept in the top grade

  • Yep looks like a keeper this kid, hair do reminds me of Brad Mackay and plays a little like him, small but has great impact

  • Offside, he caught my eye some years back when playing for NSW juniors SOO team against QLD, his runs were hard and so was his defence, some have compared him to Ray Higgs, and Price, player though that always comes to my mind when comparisons are made, I relate him to former smallish player John Baker.  Baker was very intimitating to the opposition with his nigling tactics he was not big but hard as nails, the niggling was meant to put the opposition off in order to draw penalties, it worked with some refs of the time but not all.

Stone to me is a certain keep for the club, or he should be a priority signing, ideal spot really is lock.

    • wow you must be old if you remembered Ray Higgs and John Baker

      • Thanks, needed that.

    • I watched Stone in the NYC in 2017 and he was always one of the best on the field. Speaking to Luke Burt and Joey Grima at the time they pretty much said so long as he had his act together off the field he'd be fine at NRL level.

I thought there was something Ray Price-ish about how he was always competing out there. Was willing to take hard runs and cut a few Tigers players in half.

Just on his junior club being Moss Vale, what the hell are they feeding them out there. That was the junior club for the Hindmarsh brothers and Scott Geddes from memory.

        • With the younguns don't just single out Super, what about yourself, is there a little Poppa on the cards any time soon?

  • I have only seen him play a few games but he has been impressive. Very old school with plenty of mongrel. Had a good game yesterday.

  • He didn’t put a foot wrong, it’s been impressive how well all our juniors have transistioned to first grade.

Id be keen to see how he goes in a tougher competitive game, seems like the type of character who’d stand up.

Like Lokeni, Moretti was also a centre in RU (dunno if it was inside or outside though).
We'll need these youngsters in the pack with grunt — like Tuivita, Lokeni, and Latu — to come good.
