Ray Price.

I understand all the problems regarding the coronavirus, the restrictions, the isolations and lockdown. Everyone impacted in one way or another, the world over. But what I don't understand is why no one,on this site, has mentioned Ray Price and his wife, both battling Melanomas. I admired him in his playing days at Parramatta. The way he'd stand near the goalpost, just waiting for the ball, bring kicked by an opposing teams player,to hit the crossbar and he'd catch it in his hands. It didn't always fall that way but when it did,it was magic. The stance he took,he looked like a frozen moment but a great player all the same. My best wishes go out to him and his wife and that they'll beat the living daylights out of this dreadful disease.

  • Little Old Lady, I'm glad you posted this. I only heard about it yesterday (saw the interview I mean). Cancer doesn't care who you are, or what you have done.
I hope Ray and his beautiful wife get through this as quick and as painless as humanly possible.

i loved how Ray was wearing an Eels jersey during the interview, he bled blue n gold.

Edit: I have added the clip from the Today show

  •  Thanks for posting this, Little old lady  Ray Price has always been my favourite player because of his incredible tenacity and his indomitable spirit. A lot of people forget that in the 2 seasons before he joined the Eels and played in losing rugby league grand finals in 76 & 77 he played in 2 losing union gfs with Parramatta Two Blues. Despite this with his spirit unbroken he had a magnificent representative career, becoming a dual international, 7 tests as a Wallaby and 22 rugby league tests. He also represented NSW 15 times in league after 8 appearances for the Waratahs. Won 4 grand final victories and  captained the Eels in the last of them which was also his last game in the ARL competition. Anytime would be the perfect time for the Eels to have a player with qualities equal to those of Ray Price. If we had one now we would be absolute certainties to win the comp this year.

He's a tough old bastard and I don't think he would have married a prima donna so they'll give it all they have but melanoma is a really aggressive condition. I fervently wish him and his wife all the best in what will most probably be the toughest battle of their lives.

    • 100% agree mate

Pricey is Parra through and through and what a player he was.

Spoke with him many times in the 90s when he was working for a juice company - top bloke always had time to have a chat about all things Parra.

Hope his wife and him wins this GF too.

  • Nice one Foxy, all the power to Ray and his wife, best wishes to them both.

How you travelling Foxy? you been ok? missing the footy?

    • I am well thanks Snake. Being a good girl, following Mr Governments rules and regulations. And yes, I am missing the footy, can't wait for it to start back up again. Although the antics of some of the players, TicTok Cleary and Dumb and Dumber, Mitchell and Addo Carr have kept me entertained. So it hasn't been too boring. All I can say is Go Parranatta.!!!

  • I hadn't heard about this - thanks for posting. All the very best to Ray and his wife.

I loved the praying mantis stance - I must say I never, ever saw him actually get the ball. I heard that he also did it to put the kicker off and try and create an optical illusion to distort the visual angle to the goal posts.

  • You knocked him down, but he got back up again. They'll both beat this together.

Best wishes to Ray and his missus.

      • Tough man the old Pricey .has all ready beat bowl cancer wish them both the best .story I heard about his toughness was Ado Cars Dad a boxer of some note has said the toughest fight he ever had was a street fight with one Ray Price in the city that went for just on an hour get well Mr and Mrs Price

  • Well said LOL; one of if not the toughest i have seen pound for pound. Gave it his all each game back in the days....and thoughts are with him and his wife. Agree with others - true champion. Wore his heart on his sleeve....and emblem.

  • Great post LOL. I hadn't heard either. Unquestionably the greatest ever Eel. A man's man. I still want to see an end of season MMA between Price and Reddy preceeded by Olling and Starkey then Hilditch and Stone/Jansen then Higgs and Baker versus the rest. That's real pre Grand Final entertainment and some jungle justice for 1977. I can't find a clip of the left hook that Hilditch put on Reddy in a club game I think in 1978 which completely dropped the coward stone cold.

Price is an out and out champion. Best wishes to you and your wife Ray for a speedy recovery.  Over engineered graphs don't diminish Price as undoubtedly the greatest ever Eel
