Raiders side vs Eels

Raiders team announcement:

The CFMEU Canberra Raiders have named 19 players for Monday nights clash against the Parramatta Eels, with Troy Thompson and Brett Kelly added to the team which lost to the Wests Tigers on Sunday afternoon.

Forward Trevor Thurling has been named in the side despite sustaining a knee injury against the Tigers and will receive the results of a scan on his knee as early as this afternoon.

Raiders Coach David Furner said the extended squad has been named to cover the chance of Thurling missing a week and said the team showed early in the match against the Tigers they can match it with the form teams.

“Trevor was unable to go back on the field on Sunday after hyper extending his knee so we have a couple of options on the bench if he’s unable to play,” Furner said. “We showed in the first half what we were capable of and although we had some opportunities in the second half we didn’t capitalise on them and we need to learn how to turn these into points.”

Furner said the team would work further this week on developing the halves combination of Josh McCrone and Terry Campese, while big forward Tom Learoyd-Lahrs is expected to get more game time on Monday night.

“Josh needs to work on his communication with Campo and we’ll work on that more this week as a couple of passes went loose, but I’m confident he has the ability to do the job for the team,” he said. “A fit Tommy Learoyd-Lahrs is going to be very valuable to the side, its only his second game back and he knows he can be better. He struggled a bit during the game but I’m confident he’ll be right to go again this week.”

  • what a nothing team!!

    we will smash them!!!

    haha
  • Lets hope you are a bit more correct in this weeks prediction than you were when you made this statement on 30 March, 2010 about the upcoming match against the Sharks (as well as how terrible Souths are):

"i'm confident we'll score the first 3 tries - within the first 20mins
The only reason the sharks scored the first try last night was because souths are almost as terrible. The difference is souths have the players to do well, whereas the sharks resemble team that would get beaten most weeks in the NSW cup"

    hahahahahahaha

    • At least he isn't bagging his own team and there is nothing wrong with little bit optimism about your team either. We need more supporter like eels_brad.
      • I agree Wild_Eels....I am all for being optimistic and not bagging your team.I was just having a little joke with him.

        • No worries sharkiesboomboomboom :)
  • They will embarrass us monday night, but I'm more concerned about how we play rather than the result. If we play committed football and still lose atleast that would be a step in the right direction. I don't want to see another heartless performance.
  • Agreed Jamesy... As long as we play well enough to be in a position to win the game, i will be a lot happier than the position we have been in previous weeks.
Im not suggesting im happy with mediocrity, but the reality is that the Raiders can beat anyone on their day... i want to see us compete to the end!
    • I'll take an ugly win!
  • Please don't underestimate this side. They competed against the Tigers better than we did. They've got big boppers like Tom LL and Dane Tilse coming off the bench, and the backline is full of young guns who could easily graduate to rep teams in the next couple of years. Campese is the best five-eighth in Australian on his day and McCrone complements him well. We will need to turn up and play bloody well to beat them.
  • And dont forget Josh Dugan. They've got a heap of talent in their side.
