Raiders and Bulldog cap breach

Just NowBulldogs, Raiders Involved In Salary Cap BreachCanterbury and Canberra have been slugged with fines by the NRL for salary cap breaches.Canterbury have been fined $61,474 for breaching the NRL cap by $81,965 last year, with the NRL saying the fine was 75 per cent of the breach amount because the club had self-reported.Canberra were fined $16,037 for breaches of the second-tier and NYC caps from last year in addition to a $68,073 fine for breaches of the 2015 NRL and NYC caps. The NRL says the Raiders have a poor record of compliance with salary cap rules having recorded breaches in five of the last six years.Canberra's chief executive Don Furner said "unforeseen circumstances" were to blame for the variety of breaches over the two years."Due to changes to the club's rosters during this period and injuries which forced squad changes, the club was forced to make some unplanned player movements which have forced minor breaches of the salary cap," Furner said in a statement. He said the club would continue to work with the NRL to manage the salary cap in accordance with the rules and regulations."It's unfortunate that we've had to endure these fines, but the club accepts the NRL decision regarding these breaches," he added. The clubs have five business days to request a review from the NRL Appeals Committee. For all the latest and best Triple M NRL news, download the Triple M NRL AppCANTERBURY BULLDOGS CANBERRA RAIDERSMORE FROM SYDNEYhttps://www.triplem.com.au/sport/nrl/news/nrl-salary-cap-breach-involving-raiders-bulldogs

  • Meh , got me excited then for a second .
  • Raiders must be bumping their heads on the cap ceiling by now. They've recruited extremely heavily over the past couple of years so I can't imagine they'd have much wriggle room at all.
    Paulo to Eels.
  • Time to bring back Paulo
  • This is the problem with the salary cap. It's not clear until an audit is done after the season is complete how much was actually under the cap. If the NRL had any sense they would be looking to make improvements. The fact that they continue to ignore it suggests to me that they like the income generated by the fines. By the way, does anyone know where that money is spent? They got a lot from Parra last year. Was this invested in junior leagues or player welfare? I doubt it. Most likely lining someone's pockets.

  • "Salary cap breaches in 5 of the past 6 years"!!!! Does this sound familiar?? "Unforeseen circumstances"??? So they were able to pick up Junior Paulo after we told Peats to go but unforeseen circumstances makes this ok??

Since when is it ok to get something wrong 5 out of 6 times? Clearly their p1ssy little fines aren't working so be consistent and start docking points

    • 700k over vs 61k over there was a big differnece
    • There was only talk of smaller amounts at parra before the forensic investigation as well through Brett.
I have moved on as I believe parra better club for drama last year but if any club goes over 5 out of 6 years why not go in and help them manage their cap. Obviously they having similar issues to parra and see what they doing wrong with an audit.
  • Why would nrl allow Canberra take 2 mid year signings without look in into cap situation. Paulo and tapine joined mid season, surely Canberra should have know they couldn't afford the mid year transfers.

Either way it done now and will happen every year with these smaller amounts but part of the reason for forensic look at parra was the excuse that we breached cap year after year with poor administration of the cap.
    • Parra's were technical breaches too until the forensic investigation found more and they discovered rorting.
  • When does Daniel Mortimer finally come off our cap? The last I heard was 2022. Is this correct?  Is it right that between 2017 and 2022 Paul Osborne had back-ended $800k per season for Mortimer?
