PARRAMATTA veteran Willie Tonga says Semi Radrada’s brilliance as a rugby league player is matched only by his lack of understanding of the game’s rules.
Radradra, who has scored eight tries in five matches this season, ran away from supporting Tonga when he scored a long-range try in last Friday’s upset win over Brisbane.
“I told him ‘just give me one try – I’ve set you up for a couple’,” former Australia centre Tonga says.
“He’s still learning the game. He honestly doesn’t know all the rules. Some of the stuff at training, if you were to see it … he’s got Brad (Arthur) shaking his head saying ‘is he serious?’
“But once you get the ball in his hands, he’s a completely different player and he’s able to prove that.
“He’s a surpreme athlete.”
The Eels broke through for their first away win in almost two years on Friday but Tonga says: “The self-belief we’ve got in the team, this small little group is far greater than what anyone could understand, outside looking in.
“Everyone is writing us off. Still, people are saying that we’re fluking these wins. We’ll continue on believing in each other and going into games thinking that we can beat any team, that we can mix it with them.”
Tonga has also given an insight into the revival of halfback Chris Sandow, Friday’s man of the match just weeks after starting the season in the NSW Cup.
“He’s done a lot of work off-field to get his life on track and, just speaking to him in the pre-season and seeing him come to training….” said Tonga.
“He knew that he was behind Luke Kelly. He knew that he was behind Corey Norman at training but he came and he wouldn’t be kicking stones around.
“He’d be coming to training and he’d have the cheeky grin that he has and he’d always be pulling jokes. He knew ‘I’ll get my time’ and now he’s got it and he’s making the most of it.’

The comradery shown in this years teams is awesome! Reminds me of the end of '09.
Half the refs dont know the rules either so they just make them up as they go along.
Semi fits in well
On the job training. Best way to learn the rules.
Go Semi.
Doesn't know the rules. No big deal
That hasn't stopped idiots like Slater and Smith insisting that they won 2 premierships they didn't.
sharing is caring semi.
Who cares if Semi doesn't know the rules, neither do the refs.......
