Crow arrived in 77 ...missed the goal to win the game after Sulkowicz scored a try. Played extra time for no result. We then got belted in the replay.
We got ripped off blindly in the 77 replay. Coach Fearnley told the players not to retaliate and that the ref, Gary Cook, would penalise saints out of the game. Instead, Cook allowed the foulest of play by Saints to go scot fre, including 5 cautions (yes 5) to Rod Reddy who should have been sent off twice. If Coach Fearnley had allowed us to fight back, we would have smashed them. Hilditch was a great junior boxer, Higgs, Price and Olling were also great fighters. A couple of years later we played Saints at home and Reddy played the ball and pushed Hilditch at marker. Hilditch hit him with best left hook you have ever seen and knocked Reddy out cold on the spot. He collapsed like a bag of shit. That is what would have happened if they had beeen allowed to punch on in the GF. After one scrum, John Jansen was actually giving Olling knee lifts to the head. I understand Olling (a great mate of Slugg RIP) is still very fit and I would still like to see him have a crack at Jansen as an undercard on a Nelson Asofa-Solomona fight. I am sure Price would like to have a crack at Reddy. Hilditch could fight 3 by himself one after the other. Reddy should NEVER have been allowed to coach at our club after that display.
Cronin may have missed the goal but lets not forget all the goals he kicked to get us there in the first place. In fact it was Cronin who put Price into the gap who then passed it to Sulkowicz who scored.
We should have won both 76 and 77 but its hard when the ref keeps blowing penalties against you and the ref works for Rothmans who just happened to sponsor St George. I am still pissed about it all.
Yeah PT, that's why I said we got belted. I was at both games so know all of what you wrote.
I thought it was Penfolds that Cook worked for but maybe not.
