Quick Player Update

I've noticed some questions here and there over the last few weeks about certain players. We may get an answer today about a couple of these when the teams are announced, but in the meantime, here's what's been happening:Siosaia Vave - has recently moved from doing rehab into opposed work at training. Was desperately keen to play in the first round against Manly but there was no point in rushing him. He's in really good shape and one of the strongest players in the club. I'm expecting him to be named very soon. He might have to have a run for Wenty for fitness but he hasn't been purchased to play reserve grade. Will Smith - has also recently moved into opposed work. I'm expecting a return by round 4. Was close to the fastest player at Penrith. Has versatility on his side. Could be called on for wing or fullback.Kirisome Auva'a - his suspension is now up and is eligible for selection. Could be considered for wing or centre. Has looked good at training.Plenty of depth at the club. Something like 8 players could have been added to last week's Parra and Wenty teams. Wenty's first round loss indicated that the additions were needed.

  • Thanks mate; Vave is a good buy i feel; and with good size and some strength. Mannah and Matagi both had superb games on the weekend and Vave will only add to this.Smith too think we almost forgot about him, and he is quick. I am sure when he first came good at Penriff his footwork too was v good.

Auva'a - well hes an NRL player allround.

    • The addition of Vave is going to make the Eels pack very difficult to handle. There are plenty of different body types that we are throwing at the opposition, with a diverse range of skills. It makes the tip sheet a bigger read for other teams when they play us.
  • I'm an Alvaro fan. I realise he won't put a huge hit on but I like his no nonsense attitude to hit ups. He just goes about his work with pure professionalism. Reminds me of a young Jacob lillyman.
    • He has established great respect within the football department for his work ethic. Total professional as you stated. BA has no hesitation in calling him into the team when needed.
    • Vave provides impact that's what benchies are good for...Alvaro more than adequately fills for mannah or matagi if either missed a match
  • Cheers for the update 60s
    • No problem mate.
  • Yes I agree; I also think we have lacked physical size in the past (taller forwards) and while we have several nuggety and v strong players, the taller big boppas IMO have been missed. I would have liked to get Boyd from Canberra 2 yrs ago, as he could be another good one.

    • You can't underestimate the role of the forwards in laying the platform for blokes like Norman, Gutho and French. As our pack continues to develop, watch for Normie's impact to grow.
  • I've been here a long time Poppa. Nobody would enjoy what transpired yesterday. But we move on. Thanks for being the voice of reason.
