Qantas the great rip off.

i am leaving for Boracay tomorrow with a group of couples. One couple had to pull out due to family illness a week ago. they contacted Qantas, Qantas offerered no refund or transfer. I am accept no refund but I struggle with the no transfer. Has anyone else had similar experience? If so did you have a better outcome?

  • That’s disgraceful! and so unAustralian !

  • Depends on the class of ticket you buy.

  • As Muttman says, read the fine print before you purchase a ticket. Also places like Flight Centre have their own cancellation policies.
  • With cheap flights now on offer, that is the trade off non refundable or transferable tickets. Can't have cheap tickets and not expect to lose something in return.
If have travel insurance they may cover it
  • We didn’t get the cheap tickets. Qantas is not cheap out of the airlines we could have chosen between Qantas was by far the most expensive,

    • Qantas may be more expensive then others but are lot better then goi budget airlines which don't include food, drinks or e'en baggage sometimes.
There are 3 or 4 different ranges of fare for each Qantas flight. The cheapest fare doesn't have any flexibility and is written in terms and conditions so don't like your chances of changing anything regardless where complain.

If have travel insurance they cover things like this and can get some pretty cheap insurance now days.
  • That’s why when you book flights there are always a few different prices for the same flight. The more expensive the ticket gives you the flexibility to get a refund or transfer in need be. The cheapest tickets don’t offer this. It might seem harsh but it’s been like this for quite a while now
  • yes same issue with cebu Pacific! non transferable!!!! or refundable
  • It’s called travel insurance, $not expensive well worth it.
  • Always read the fine print. They offered no transfer at the time it was purchased why expect one now?
