Prostate awareness month

Courtsey of Google AI

Prostate awareness month is observed in September annually, with organizations like the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia (PCFA) leading initiatives to raise awareness and funds for this common cancer that affects Australian men. The month promotes early detection and support for prostate cancer patients, encouraging men to learn about symptoms and discuss options with their doctors. You can get involved by participating in events like PCFA's The Long Run fundraiser or the Turning Australia Blue campaign, where landmarks are lit blue to show support.

Why is there a Prostate Awareness Month?

Awareness:

It aims to increase public knowledge about prostate cancer, the most commonly diagnosed cancer in Australia.

Early Detection:

Early detection can significantly improve outcomes, and the month encourages men to be aware of potential symptoms and consult their doctors.

  • I was diagnosed with Prostate Cancer about 18 months ago. Thankfully I'm only 'low level' which requires 'Active Surveillance' meaning regular blood tests to check PSA levels. Also have a few other issues as well but there are many people far worse off than I. So I count my blessings everyday and thank God I have a home, food, family! Guys make sure you get regular check ups especially as you age. Many men can have Prostate Cancer and not know because symptoms don't show at first.

    • Great post CE, life is for living.

      Thanks for sharing

  • Been for my check up with Doc, but have to wait for 16 Nov to get my Medicare funded bi-annual blood test.

They told me that last test was in the very low range. Happy with that!

  • Great Post Mick.

Men should get themselves checked. PSA blood test, catch it early and you can survive.

Ignoring the tests is just plain fool hardy.

    • Agree- great post and wake-up call for many..

A close neighbour chose to ignore the signs and conferred with Dr Google and not the doctors.

He prolonged his Dr Google advised 'natural treatment' till it was too late.

We have great doctors and facilities -make the most of it, as the disease, if caught early, can be beaten.

Well done, Mick for your original posting.

    • Cheers BE, we have a bit of fun and talk footy but health is wealth- as males we tend to ignore the signs, it doesn't need to be that way.

  • Great post mate , can never be too careful .  One of my doctors gives me an examination on every visit .

    Best dentist in Wollongong .
