Preparations for a monster year

Hi guys,

As many of you would have likely noticed I've had a fair bit of downtime from the site since the election, and I think the mods have done a really tremendous job of keeping things on a pretty even keel as those who have been here for years will know that the off-season can get pretty messy.

I've been logging in a bit more over the past week and I was quite surprised to see just how active the site was given this time of year is generally still pretty quiet and things don't start to ramp up till the first local trials. So I checked analytics and was blown away by the fact that the site broke all its previous record for the highest number of unique visitors during a month and that the number of people visiting at the moment is double what it was at the same time last year.

As the site has grown, we've always had to make various adjustments and so I'm starting to think about how we'll cope with the increased traffic this year and putting it out to you guys for any things you would like to see.

My pet hate has always been the abuse between members, and my thought at this stage is that we're going to make greater use of short-term suspensions. But I'll get one of the other guys to manage it, as when we tried it before, I just didn't have the time to manage it properly.

I'd really like to spend my year writing and creating content rather than moderating and handing out suspensions and so forth, and I really am looking to you guys to also pull each other into line. And also appreciate that moderating a site of this size with volunteers is really difficult, and while you might not always agree, to just suck it up, accept the verdict and move on.

Anyway, I'm going to continue to be really busy until around Jan 20 when a conference my company is running finishes up, but I'm keen to get some things firmly in place before this season starts. Feedback welcome.

Why cant certain members just be banned from talking to each other, if they break the ban then they have a few days off, we dont need military tactics on here, why do bans have to be thrown around, it smacks of mods that dont have the smarts to control the site and due to their own poor conflict resolution skills, just hand out bans because they lack the goods and respect to find civil ways of dealing with feuding members, when it only takes 5 minutes to come up with some easy resolutions to solve the problems.

One thing ive always respected about Phil is that he is not shy to just send you a PM if he is not happy with something, he doesnt expect others to live to his personal set of morals and doesnt try to inflict the site with his own personal set of morals and never sets out on personal 'cowboy' attempts to create a rainbow state, im afraid that this is going to ocure now, all suspensions should be run by phil to get the ok.

ive got to be a moderator as well.....the donkey blood made me an ass...but im hoping it wears off soon:)
