I hope Bradford hold out for maximum compensation or leave him to rot on the sidelines. I also hope Orford repays to wages rather than the Eels having to stump up for him. Oh well,we can hope lol
No wonder we have tried to poach JT, im sure any club would rather pay 600 000 for a current great player than the same amount for the ox.
There is no way i would like to see us commit scuh large dollars to an Orford contract.
What i am interested in to know is will the transfer fee be waivered if we send Robson or another player in return for Orford?
Say if Robson is worth 150K a season and he goes for 2 years. Does that mean one cancels out the other in the salary cap?
I also would like to think Blair is more of a half chance than Tonga. There is so much confusion and volatility in Melbourne that maybe we could secure him. With Mateo gone and Maitua not due to play till after round 10 it may be possible to see him line up alongside Smith, Shacks, Hindy and Horo?
The whole salary cap rule system is really getting to me, the Titans sponsor can bulid thier best player a house and seem that's ok, Melb sponsors give players gift vouchers and thats not ok, souths sign a pommie and the owner pays the transfer fee and thats ok, we want to sign a player on contract to a english club and the tsf fee has to count in the cap.
Double standards people.
The salary's of all players should be released to the public to show who is getting what and where they are getting it from.
End this crap once and for all and the only way to do it is for the NRL to release of each club, thier roster and vaule.
I bet that there are other clubs routing just as bad as the Storm were just they haven't been caught yet.
The only way they did get caught was the same as the bulldogs, the NRL got a tip off.
NRL is not serious about the salary cap or they would have a team 6-10 auditors going to everyclub twice a year to check.
Personally, I'm comfortable with the idea of Orford - even on $600k - for 1 season but there's no way Orford would agree to such a deal - particularly when the Raiders would happily offer a 2, possibly 3 year deal.
So, should Cronk or Thurston be off limits and Orford present as the only option - but on such money that would prohibit us having a real crack at Cronk or Cooper in 2012 - do we take up the option or head into 2011 with the same inexperience in the halves that confounded our season in 2010?? Some people have suggested that we put our faith in Murray, however, history tells us that relying on a young, rookie halfback to organise a team is fraught with folly. Morts and Humble will have had a full season either in first grade or training with the firsts and another off-season and may step up, or perhaps we could rely on the experience and cool head of Casey McGuire to organise the side partnered with a combination of Morts/Humble/MK/Mitchell.
The problem I see is that our CEO is under pressure to land a 'marquee' signing - perhaps his job depends upon it - so in all likelihood, Orford will name his terms, Osborne will be obliged to agree and we'll never have a decent shot at securing Cronk or Quade Cooper in 2012 :-(
BUT..... can any1 update how his shoulder is and if its 100% recovered or not?
The last thing we need is to sign orford (who WAS a great and injury free player a couple of years ago) on the big $$$ we have left in the cap, only to find out his banged up shoulder will realy not recover 100% as at his age the human body doesnt recover from serious injuries as it should say if he was 22-23.
Another possibility that MYSELF has come up with is.........
Cowboys are feed up with Thurston and are happy to release him to us but only if ORFORD signs with them, I heard that GUS GOULD was a massive fan of orford back in the day, just something to think about (i hope so anyways)
Gus Gould is MORE of a fan of JT and will do everything he can to smooth the waters to keep him at the Cowbots.
The word on the street in NQ is that Gould has been approached to take over from Maninga coaching the Toads as well and IS considering the option.
Does anyone know if there has been any mention of a Orford / Robson deal?
Why we didn't follow the Dogs example and develop "sister club" status with the Bulls and do the swap like the Dogs did for Eastwood is beyond me.
Greenburg is certainly showing all the other clubs how to run a topline business.
SIGN GREENBURGH INSTEAD !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! forget the rest.
