Positives of 2017 that will help us in 2018

I know we are all very disappointed but i just wanted to mention a few things that us fans learnt this season that will benefit us for next season. They are:

- Cameron King is our NO.9: Many suggested that this off season, most of our cap would be spent buying a new NO.9. Well i believe we have found our man for years to come.

-Moses is our NO.7: Many fans doubted the signing of moses, i for one had my doubts, but as a result of this season and mitches performances, many have agreed that moses is and deserves to be our NO.7 heading towards the future. He is very talented, and gives his all every game.

- Brown and Gutherson are two very important players of the future: Both players had breakout years this season, and us fans now know we have two very reliable players in these two men who both have automatic selection for next year.

- Our forwards Need work: This was probably obvious at the start of the year, but our small forwards, although very determined and aggressive, lacked size to really dominate other forward packs. I think our front in particular needs work, and i think this will be addressed in the off season.

- Timmy Mannah is past is time: I think this is the most subjective out of all my comments and i know will cause debate, but IMO timmy is past his time as a forward. Tim is a great bloke but heading into next season i fear that his spot in the team could very well be at the expense of Alvaro, who im starting to believe is going to be another player of the future for the club, and i was starting to really enjoy watching his development as a player.

-We need a new captain: Again this relates to timmy, but i stress the importance of having the right player in a teams 17 being the captain. The captain needs to be someone who other players respect and look up to, while also enjoy being around. He needs to be someone who sets the standards at training and encourages others to be better. Timmy is not this player and i honestly believe next year King guth should be our captain. To me he suits the role perfectly, and although he is young, i do believe he has enough respect from players around him to thrive in the role.

-BA is the coach to get the job done although he may need some assistance: I think most will agree that BA has done a terrific job both this year and last year and is not a contender for coach of the year for No reason. Perhaps he needs some assistance with getting the players attitudes right, or even having someone who has a different view on team selections just to get a different opinion.

I would like to hear your thoughts on other things you think we have learnt this year like the ability or positions of certain players or anything you think we have learnt as a result of this season. Also would like to hear if you agree or disagree with the statements i have made. Thanks for a great season mighty eelsss.

  • Kritchard... I just cannot see what people see in him. King was massive for us this year and again last night.
  • Playing moneyball will only get you so far... There are heaps of washed up old players looking for a final paycheck !!
    GO YOUTH!!!!!
  • You are spot on with Your comments. I think our props need some definite grunt. Haven't seen much of Kane Evans but I think we should be looking for another big boppa. Would love to see Junior back at Parra. Mannah could come off the bench. We have the money to spend so I'm sure BA will spend it wisely. Radrada will be a huge loss. Do we need to replace him? Personally I think we have good cover but if we were to go after another winger I would look at Curtis Rona.
  • I tend to agree Josh. Alvaro is becoming a very good player, as are a couple of other guys. We need them to play rep footy over the next couple of years so that they can learn from the best. I always thought that Norman should be captain, but now I reckon Gutherson or Brown could be the solution. They both have very good footy brains.
Regarding the size of our forwards, our pack looked like midgets next to NQ. Agree that this needs to be addresses.
  • Hard to argue with anything you've said here. Also with a few injured players coming back into the side I think we will give the top 4 another real crack next year. I'm going early and predicting we finish 4th again. Anyone else willing to stick their neck out this early?

  • OK FME.. I'll go for it.. We will finish 12th.
    • Ill remember that prediction Fathead.

    • That's cool... And please make a list. But we haven't recruited any forwards and Will continue to pick the carcasses off others for rejects. Just can't win a premiership like that.
  • Sack BA is a bush coach. Get a decent coach and a good defence coach.  BA does not have plan B and he had pretty much same team for last 2 years and still he does not have clue. He had 2 years to make a team who can compete for 80 minutes not 40 minutes.

  • I may give it a little more time then open a main blog about it if someone doesn't beat me to it.
