Positional switch

Have been thinking about the future of our spine quite a bit (love pre season footy withdrawals) Does anyone else think that Salmon would make a good fullback? I read that he has been training at 6 and centre but I feel like his skills as a 6 and his running game could make a great 1. Still a French fan and I hope he has a cracker year at 1 but just have a feeling Salmon could develop into a brilliant 1 or a backline utility who could cover the whole backline.

  • He has actually played fullback at junior level i think he will find himself in the centers or at 14 at this point but fullback is not out of the question

    • That's interesting!! Do you know if he only switched to 6 when he started 20's?

  • I personally like my fullbacks to have explosive acceleration, which is why I like Bev there.

I know we're all wondering what to do with Salmon - I still think Hooker.

All of which does make him the ideal 14.

    • Salmon as a 9 is interesting... I guess only time will tell. I have a feeling we will sign another 9 and with Mahoney opportunities for him to play 9 will be unlikely, backline utility seems to be his future similar to Kurt Mann (except go figure hes being groomed as a 9 now) would not be against Salmon being trained at fullback at all however.

    • Does Salmon have that acceleration?

He never looked that quick from what I seen last season.

      • Reading cumberland throw he seems to be very fit as well as pacey. Dont quote me but I think he might be the quickest half parra has on the books and Moses is I think fast for a 6.

  • Salmon will never be fullback.  And even if he wanted to be fullback, he would be about 4th in the pecking order like.

    • Gutho surely wont be a long term fullback, French is coming off a bad year and could lose confidence early... Who else is there to play fullback? I think if Brown and Moses cement themselves in the halves, then Salmon could be a great future fullback project.

      • Drew.  That is crazy, at fullback he will like be a fish out of water.

        • it was also "crazy" to put Ben Barba at fullback when he first moved from the halves? It was "crazy" to move Lockyer who was the Aussie fullback to 6 (I know lockyer is a living legend but still) these were both said to be a "fish out of water" it is not too strange to move Salmon who is obviously a running 6 to a more free roaming role like fullback.
