Poppa's Corner: True Believers Come on Down; Unicorns Unite

Some people need to reflect on their thoughts and comments on how much we would have been beaten by tonight.

I mentioned upon reflection that the disappoinment of last week was part of us learning. If we had won last week, we would probably not have won tonight. I am always gratefull for the lessons learnt, because when you think you have it right something always happens to change it. Lets hope for consistency. Only then, can greatness come.

We will have games like last week again. Everybody does. But what we learnt cannot be taken back.

If anyone doubts the genuiness of our renaissance, go back and reflect on tonight's game and the one before it.

It is always so with Parra. But the ability is there. Some of those players will not be there in future games. But they can reflect on one thing:  We are good enough.

We will get better just the same.

  • I don't think we played that badly last week either, just couldn't finish off the opportunities that we created, club seems to be trending in the right direction, next step is signings of some big names ✔️

    • Eli, you are true believer and a Unicorn, where a dying breed, so be careful.....the baton will be pass to you when I pass, how old are you 67 pension age, how long before you a ready to take on wiz and the haters.

  • Consistency is the key going foward.

Lessening the difference between our best and worst has to be the goal.

Continuing to lift the floor I see is also being key around the roster and the above mentioned.

Lessons learnt I mean high completion and cutting the errors it's taken us this far to realise hey if we do the mentioned we can stay in games for much longer. It was a great win tonight but the key for me is can we put another 2 performances back to back or do we drop back into the sme old this is the conundrum we face in our process of this rebuild.

If we can put together more.like it then I'd say we are learning our lessons if slip back into the same old Im not so sure.At this point I'll just enjoy this win.

    • Coryn you identified the difference last night, we played without the abundance of errors that have become our norm in this evolution. I noticed last night that many passes were pushed and we managed to catch some we probably were not entitled to catch. Roosters were the complete opposite,  as 'Forest' says, Shit Happens!

I really see a lot of these players as our future depth, no one from our side last night is liable to be poached, hard work and effort is always going to be to their advanatge.....Rylie Smith maybe the exception to that, I think he is going to be a superstar! his line speed and pressure on the kicker really upset the roosters rythm....christ he made their new young 5/8 savalla look like a one game novice.

i hope every club in the competition realises that if you want stop a half like Sammy Walker, then run at him! They are little and tackle low, eventually they will be runover just like last night.

I said last night to my wife that the JAC intercept was memorable, very rare to see a Parra player make an intercept and not run down in 30. JAC was put down your glasses from the moment he held his juggling act.

      • "then run at him! They are little and tackle low, eventually they will be runover just like last night " another dopey observation...haha every coach targets the halfway in a game plan, give it a rest its 8:32 am and this dribble has killed a few of my brain cells

          • Just reply to your girlfriend Coryn..haha

Someone has to feed that ego of yours ploppa is a bottomless pit.

          • I think the last time the Eels beat the Chooks was by running over Walker? Teams have not bothered making a game plan out of targetting the Eels halves for a while (Moses, and when brown was 6).

      • Rugby League is a simple game man that high completion rate was even more impressive because what we were doing with the ball.JR Wisemantel and Moa I give cudos to because all phases of the game last night I couldn't really find any fault.

Yep you have to hark back to Radradra days to see what JAC did in full flight he looked fantastic.

Little halves on hard line running back rowers is a occupational hazard unfortunately I remember when Moses was a speed bump even young Papali'i has taken his lumps from those given back rowers can't help that most halves are going to face the mentioned especially if they smell blood in the water and you got halves who aren't great defenders.

Even watching Campbell last night he missed alot of tackles you'd like to see halves make.

Ill say this now if Smith isn't a priority someone needs to be fired that guy is irreplaceable in this rebuild process right now.No chance in hell he isn't extended.I love that he's adding a kicking game out of dummy half also the progression with him is moving very quickly dare I say it he's the future and TDS may well not be.

        • I think with someone like Campbell you need to qualify the effort. He was making, trying to make tackles he should not have had to. This is another reason why statistics can be misleading for players. The effort can look ugly when you are isolated or left in a position to stop a play, but effectively you can't complete it.

The defence of Titans in the Warriors game was a disgrace.

          • I read Titans are wanting to throw the cheque book at Campbell and . . . yeah he is not kicking down the door at 7 so good luck Titans
