Points Differential

Can’t understand how the points differential works in NRL. Last week we were ahead of the Cowboys on points differential. This week we lost to them by 38 points so I would imagine the differential this week to be less than 38 in the Cows favour, yet the League Live site is showing that to be 66 (142 - 76). Am I missing something here?

  • The differential from last night wasn't 38.
It was 76 minus the 10 points we were ahead before the game = 66.

Yes our for and against went down by 38, but the Cowboys went up by the same margin making it a 76 pount swing and a certain spoon.

  • It’s simple maths paratrooper.

We were -104 before the game and went down by 38 to -142.

They were -114 before the game and improved by 38 to -76.
  • Eels went down by 38, cowboys went up by 38 = 76 points minus the 10 we were ahead before the game = 66

  • Thanks guys, silly me overlooked the fact the differential from last night’s game is doubled as we are comparing the same two teams.
