Plethora of Forwards & Outside Backs

If we sign Tonga we will have an outside back roster that reads;

Hayne
Burt
Grothe
Loko
Walker
Tahu
Reddy
Tonga

Our forwards roster reads;

Hindmarsh
Fui
Smith
Shacks
Poore
Webb
Mannah
Maitua
Horo
Manuokafoa
Lasalo

Halves & hookers reads;

Mortimer
Robson
Humble
Mcguire
Keating
Mitchell

As we all know (and is the underlying topic of most blogs here) of the 3 positional areas the halves/hookers is definitely the lightest in talent/experience. My questions are;

1. Why are we continually signing players outside of this positional area? (yes, I know we need them but it appears that we are throwing too much money at these positions)
2. Do we have more money under the cap than we think and we will sign Orford or Sherwin? (and this is still in the process of being resolved).
3. Are we simply signing players for the sake of it? (don't get me wrong, the outside backs and forwards rosters are an impressive read).
4. Is Tahu really going to re-sign?

  • Agree but centre is probably the one specialist area where we could be potentially light

    This could be demonstrated via an injury to Tahu (on the cards) which would force Loko or Walker into the position if Tonga was not on the books.
  • Good point Patrick
  • Mate our depth for forwards and backs in 2010 was not good at all, taking steps to correct that IMO is good recruitment. In fact our depth in those positions was one of our big problems, with halves and hookers we actually had lots of options but none worked in 2010 at least. We have more options next year, and yes Tahu is going to be re-signed.
  • Tahu has signed for 1 year. There was a small blurb in the Telegraph yesterday. Not sure of details however i believe 1 year is enough as he can prove his worth after last years debacle.
    Personally I dont want Tonga, we need a specialist halfback.
    If Tonga signs, that means that wither Reddy, Grothe or Burt would be scarificed and along with Walker, Loko & Aitkens that is a list of strong capabel backups. I dont like to predct injuries but they are all handy backups but i am sure Reddy would miss out if Grothe was back to his best. He is quicker and stronger than Reddy on his day and if Burt was signed in front of Inu then i am sure they would start him either though he would be my preference to not start.
    And if we sign Sherwin I will be unhappy.
  • So true Muttman! Rugby League is a simple game often made more complicated by coachesand players.
  • didnt we get phil graham aswell?
  • You can add Jordan Atkins to that list.

    He's definately with us next year, if this hadn't been established already.
  • oh yes. sorry Jordan!
