Players will guide 2010 tactics: Anderson

Expect Parramatta to play a different style of football to what took them to the grand final in 2009, but whatever style coach Daniel Anderson employs will be dictated by his players."It will change," said Anderson, when asked by 1Eyed Eel if he expected the larger pack he now has at his disposal to affect the style of football the Eels will play."We've got Justin Poore in for Joe Galuvao and Shane Shackleton in for Todd Lowrie," Anderson said. When pressed as to what that might mean for the Eels' 2010 brand of football, Anderson replied that would be up to his players, as he would base his side's tactics around the way his players"That's the way we did in [2009] and that's the way it will be this season".Anderson said the Eels would need to manufacture another NRL quality front rower to make up for the loss of Broderick Wright."We've got two young ones in Mitchell Allgood and [Mitchel] Johnson and we've got Pele Peletelese from the Burleight Bears. He's a massive man. Very, very big and powerful."

  • We need tactics that keep changing this year. If our tactics don't change constantly, we'll be too predictable like the Dragons, but I think DA has got this covered.

Only thing that will stop us from the premiership is injury, which I'm going to be worrying about every single week after each game. If we lose 4 or 5 key players to injury late in the season approaching finals time, we're gone.

You know what? We need to give our players armour lol. Like the one Daniel Mortimer used for the Bulldogs game. If our players are well protected they are less likely to get injured.

If we're injury free, we're bound to take out the 2010 Premiership!
  • First of all 1Eyed Eel, I love this site and your interviews.

I have been waiting all day for this one (at work this week and well not much happening..).

I believe we will be playing with a bit more punch in our forwards, at least hold our own with the big packs giving way for our backs to clean up.

Now we are all pumped for a big year, BUT other team’s have bought well in the off season as well as the dreaded doggies, Saints & the storm (I have a lovely bull bar with one B. Slater’s name on it).

We need to take a few steps before we can talk about the GF.. (unfortunately).

We need to start well, I can see the rep season hitting us a little more this year then in the past couple and yes injuries do play a part in every team, but we have a very good mix this year. I believe we are well cover in the backs/ 7 & 6, the forward’s (I do like the 17 we have) I would like to see the younger guys step up if injuries do play a part this year.
    • agreee 100% with needing to start well. if after the first 5 rounds we can be sitting on 6 or 8 points then i think everything will start clicking into place.
    • "somewhere between the globetrotters and a freight train" - Thats a brilliant line mate.
  • I think the strengthening of our forward pack will mean easier meters meaning less need to throw the ball around on early tackles. Which will mean a more structured style of football but at same time giving the backs more time to do what they do best when they have good go forward infront of them. I think the team will have a better balance this year.

THE FORWARDS WILL SMASH AND THE BACKS WILL FLASH!
  • I thought it was interesting that Ando threw Mitchel Johnson into the mix given he'll still be playing NYC next year. All of those three are good sized props - will be particularly interesting if Allgood can stack on some muscle in the offseason. He's potentially a 192/110kg prop which we've not had for a very long time. Looking forward to seeing Pele in the trials too.
  • i think every fan of any team is frightened about injuries but its part of the game and playing sport, but i do think he need to do an enforcer for mortimer until he bulks up just like carol for lockyer and dragons sorta do it for soward too maybe shackleton?
And as for your quick forward on the side of the ruck we have mateo- always attracks alot of defenders plus keeps them guessing with his offload and he sorta learnt at the back of the season when to hold on and when to pass, and what about smith and hindmarsh running on the fringes?
  • yeh i agree with you john but with the players we have(without spending more $$) unless we get someone from lower grades i think once he has learnt to only throw the passes when they will stick he is the man we are looking for our wide. i think we have the best forward pack for a long time.
with moimoi and poore's explosiveness, hindy and cayless doing constant hitups, b smith mateo out wide damaging smaller players, plus shackleton coming into the game providing power makes me excited.

maybe ben smith will get back to his best and can be the damaging watmough type runner out wide we need
  • There are several ways the team may improve and go to the next level.

For me... its as simple as Mateo and Hayne forming a Kenny/Sterlo combination.
  • we need specialist halve coaches bring back sterlo and bert and make them special assistants(NFL).

i would love to see daniel mortimer do a kenny back pass this year.

Not that I really care, as the team has a lot more to focus on.  Interesting though.....Parramatta used to be a popular team to draw crowds,   I guess times have changed..
