Players that can play NEARLY any position

I'm doing a list requested by Davo about those players that can play NEARLY any position on the rugby league field.

Inglis

Hayne

Shearer (I reckon he could)

SBW

Meninga

Laurie Daley

Wally Lewis

Tom Raudonikis

Harry Bath

Clive Churchill

Matt Gillett (Centre, 2nd row, front row, lock, has played wing and 5/8 before)

Cronin

Fittler

John Sattler????

Dally Messenger

Joey Johns

Probably a few more but can't think of them right now

  • That I know of, the most complete utility player currently in the NRL is Luke Lewis.

He's played wing, centre, five-eighth, back-row, halfback, lock and a bit of hooker.

As for GI, in his career, he's played fullback, wing, centre & five-eighth.

Hayne has played centre, wing, five-eighth and fullback.

SBW has played centre, back-row and lock, five-eighth & halfback.

    Meninga's played centre, wing, back-row & five-eighth.

    Daley's played five-eighth, centre, fullback & lock.

Lewis has played halfback, lock, five-eighth & centre.

    Raudonikis has played halfback, five-eighth & front-row.

    Bath's played second-row, front-row & hooker,

Churchill's played fullback only (according to recorded stats, that is).

    Gillett's played lock, centre, back-row & five-eighth.

    Cronin's played centre & wing.

    Fittler's played lock, centre, five-eighth, fullback & front-row.

    Sattler's played front-row, hooker, second-row & lock.

Johns has played hooker, five-eighth & halfback.

Lewis is probably one of the most versatile players the NRL has ever seen.

    • Pretty sure SBW has also played a bit of five-eighth.

  • He has, my bad.
Quickly skimmed through it all and left it out.

Oddly enough, he has one game as a halfback, too.

  • Luke Burt - Fullback, Wing, Centre?, Five-Eighth,

What about utility players such as Kurt Gidley?
    • Sorry Yobz, Ricky my bad, left out a couple of players there

  • Guys, i'm saying those who probably could play all positions if given a crack

    • Nearly every player could play any position if given a go, being good at that position is another question. Akuila Uate, Manu Vatuvei and Marika Koroibete wouldn't look out of place in the second-row.

    • Very few players - if any - would be able to adequately play every position.
Just thought it'd be interesting to point out the positions the listed players could play.

  • The great Daniel 'station' Wagon played in numerous positions, wing, centre, 5/8, second row/lock
  • Yeah I could see joey johns in the front or second row...
