Players still off contract

It seems we either have not signed anyone for next year yet or for some reason we are keeping it quiet. But while this happens most of the quality players are being signed else where, here is a list of players still off contract i think we should be chasing.

Maurice Blair

Joel Romelo

James Segeyaro

David Stagg

Sam Kasiano

Mose Masoe

Sika Manu

Mark Minichiello

Kyle O'Donnell

Tyrone Peachey

Ukuma Ta'ai

Tony Williams

Ryan Hinchcliffe(Not off contract but rumoured)

Michael Jennings ( For the right price. Panthers would have to pay some)

Whats everyones thoughts? Have i missed anyone of note?

  • I'd be going for the following, I'm pretty sure they're all off contract at the end of season 2012;

Tony Williams/Sam Kasiano - sounds like the Dogs might only be able to have one or the other

    Joel Edwards

Wade Graham to play in the 6

    James Segeyaro

An outside back would be nice but not sure who....

    • all well n good looking to see whose off contract, but theve gotta wanto come to our club.......

just look for the stupidest guys from the list above, and we may have a chance with them..

any guys that want to take the cash over going to a club that they will go backwards at, that will be our man, very simple equasion, i dont wanna be a black santa but its the reality of the situation.

    • wade graham just re-signed with the sharkies

  • Ben Smith hopefully shoudl fill some of the void left by the irreplacable Hindy so we have no need to look at Stagg.
If Segeyaro signs on with us I am guessing Ballin is no longer lined to us and will either go to the Cowboys or Raiders. That means that from the above you would cancel out Romelo and Hinchcliffe.
I would stay away from Jennings as his price is too inflated for his stocks on the park.
Kasiano would be a major signing however we do have Terepo coming through the ranks to replace Poore hopefully. I would look at Ta'ai for impact off the bench but would stay away from Masoe.
TREX would be the impact second rower we are after and would provide more value than Manu in terms of minutes played. They both seem to be injury prone so there would be a risk there. Minichiello is a strong running back rower but runs hot and cold - he is better than Lasalo and Horo but with the emergence of Ryan maybe we can secure TREX and call it a day in the back row department.
Tyrone Peachey is interesting as a second tier player option, he was the Cronulla's NYC player of the year last year and plays multiple positions that Paulo is covering for us at present. With them (Sharks) resigning Graham then this kid may look at opting out? He comes from good stock just like O'Donnell. O'Donnell has a massive frame and can play across most postions. We have been grooming a few juniors of our own so not sure if these kids would get a look in?
    Massive no to Blair.
    • So Wade Graham has re-signed with the Sharks??? Damn!

    • Gday HH, this blogs like saying, what will we do this arvo, cause the world is gonna end at midnight.......

its not gonna happen, so dont bother talkin about it....

we cant just pick n choose who we want, we are not in the position for that,,

this blog needs to be refrazed,  ''who are the idiots in the comp that want to go to a team with no idea, a team with the worst coach in nrl history, etc, we cant just pick n chose n fantacise about who we want, its delusional..

  • romelo and segeyaro would be great buys

    t.willaims would be perfect aswell

the rest arnt worth looking at

  • I fully agree...

It's almost like we need to get, say all the 4 blokes I mentioned above, in a Group Meeting at the same time and say to them -"Look, here's our plan, we want to build the club around you boys along with Sandow, Hayne, Sio and Hoppa for the next 5 years" and let them make a group decision. Nobody would want to dive in first and sign unless they knew there were some other decent signings to accompany them!!!

Oh, and assuring them that we will have a decent coach on board might help too....

    • that's what Brian smith did with the big 4 plus ainscough freeman and about three other players

one big group meeting - it was open so there was no whispers about who's might come

get em all together and say how good will we go with this group

although with the current coach I doubt anything that constructive could happen

they would get in the room and he would stare blankly at them with his big eyes and say nothing
  • cheers miatch, hear where you coming from mate, i just like to add some reality to the speculation

"If he had any self respect and really rated himself he would leave. I mean if he's THAT good he would have countless suitors fighting for his signature.
Simple fact is he knows he won't and will struggle to get as gig as good as he has at the Eels."

"Arthur will need to be handcuffed and frog matched out of the joint. No way he leaves voluntarily. He knows his best chance as a 1st grade coach is at Parra, no other club would be as dumb as our board that's for certain."

"I don't mind this. It does seem that Bennett is going to Souths from yesterdays presser. If we miss out, or as it appears, we don't show any interest, this seems a good option. Need someone who is going to shake the joint up a bit. But who knows…"
