Players scorecard for 2016

I thought I'd give my opinion on the majority of our 2016 players. Feel free to add your own comments -

Michael Gordon - Gave his all in every game for us, even after signing with the Chooks and the season was gone. Goalkicking wasn't quite as accurate as we'd hoped but still happy with his 1 year in the blue and gold. 7/10

Bevan French - Was given an opportunity and has grabbed it with both hands. 19 tries in 13 games is just an amazing effort! Needs to work on his size and defence but with a full off season to work on that, the skies the limit! 8/10

Brad Takairangi - Proved he has all the skills no matter which side of the field he plays on. Regular injuries though somewhat marred his season. Hopefully he gets that hammy right over the off season. 7.5/10

Michael Jennings - Peformed solidly in his first year at the club. His defence probably over-shadowed his attack though. Showed glimpses in attack but never quite got to the level we've seen from him before. 6/10

Semi Radradra - Tough season for Semi with all the dramas regarding Union, the DV case and injury. Still he showed why he is still the best winger in the comp. A cloud hangs over his future with Parra for multiple reasons, let's hope it all gets sorted in a good way for him and the club. 7/10

Clint Gutherson - Now this guy is a footballer and I'm sure has surprised a lot of people with how far he has come on this season. A shaky start as a winger he was then moved to the centres before making the number 6 his own! Can't wait to see him with a full pre-season under his belt partnered with Normy. 8/10

Kieran Foran - The signing of the decade turned out to be exactly the opposite. We'll never know the full story of what went on with Kieran but I hope he gets himself sorted out. The few games he did play for us, he led from the front but my score reflects the whole season. 3/10

Corey Norman - Was in sublime form for us before his 8 week suspension which ended his/our season. Hopefully it is the off-field wake up call he needed and he'll be back to form an awesome halves pairing with Gutho in 2017. Again my score reflects the whole season, not just the games played. 6/10 (would have been 9 without the off-field dramas).

Jeff Robson - Came to the club late in the season due to injuries. Did the job he was required to do. A good backup to have if he goes around again next year. 6/10

Danny Wicks - Thought he did pretty well this year and has been rewarded with a new deal. Needs to improve his ball security at times and would like to see him run the ball harder at the line and use his size. 6.5/10

Nathan Peats - Feel very sorry for Peatsy as he was made the scapegoat in a way for the salary cap issues. When he did play he gave his all. Hope he does well in the semis for the Titans. 6/10

Isaac De Gois - He is a great backup hooker to have but I don't think he is the answer as our permanent number 9. Puts his body on the line and deserved his new deal. Just hope he didn't cost too much. 6/10

Kaysa Pritchard - Always come on with plenty of energy and I like him playing that PJ Marsh type roll from the bench. A few injuries once again though which is a concern. 6/10

Junior Paulo - Was one of the best props in the comp at the start of the season but when everything went down hill off the field so did Junior's form on it. Ultimately left for the Raiders and for the $ offered who could blame him. 5/10

Daniel Alvaro - Love this guy! You know what you're going to get from Daniel. Good go forward and strong defence. Will be a long stay in 1st grade and another important part of the future of our club! 7/10

Tim Mannah - Every team needs a player like Tim in the club. He is a workhorse who does his job and leads the way for the other forwards. Would like to see back as at least co-captain on the field for next year (maybe with Normy). 7/10

Tepai Moeroa - Finally seems to have shaken off the injury concerns which plagued him last year. Probably hasn't come on a quickly as some would have hoped but he is only young and I think the next few years he will come into his own and show how could he can be. 6.5/10

Manu Mau - We need to re-sign this guy asap! It's no wonder other teams want him. He hits hard in defence and is dangerous in attack. Very hard to find any weaknesses in his game. 8/10

Beau Scott - Is a toss up between him and Gutho for our signing of the year. For the first half of the year he was our best player week in week out. The salary cap dramas seemed to affect his game a bit and his second half of the year was a little quiter. Still very happy with Beau's efforts this year. Running down "Tom Turbo" was a highlight at Brookie for me! 8/10

Kenny Edwards - Another welll deserved re-signing. Skills and toughness. The Kenny cuddles were a highlight but needs to look into those cramps that keep happening in those close games...ha ha. 7.5/10

Peni Terepo - He might have hands like feet sometimes but I love the way he runs the ball everytime. As long as he isn't on too much, he's a great bench forward to have. 7/10

BA - Absolute legend! No more to be said. 10/10

  • Good summary Mightyeel. I thought Tepai was much better in the back half of the season and his last few games showed more of what he is capable of. I thought Jennings also looked very dangerous near the tryline whenever he got the ball. Probably not his best season, but I think he did his job well (could feed Semi a bit more though...).

I hope Norman can continue his form into next year. He must be very close to replacing the aging halves in the QLD team (I hope they don't pick him though..)

  • Your scores are probably far more accurate Brett. Mine were just based on my gut feelings thinking back over the season that was.

  • Michael Gordon 6
    Bevan French 7
    Brad Takairangi 6.5
    Michael Jennings 6.5
    Semi Radradra 8.5

    Corey Norman 8
    Jeff Robson 6.5
    Danny Wicks 6.5
    Nathan Peats 7
    Isaac De Gois 5
    Kaysa Pritchard 4.5

    •  RazorRamOn: I like your gradings. Very fair and just about right. You should be a selector some time in the future! I am not going to say "next year " otherwise I would need to grant myself my cuckoo award given to the first to say they are excited about "next year"sic!

    • Wot choo smokin' Razor.

      Norman an 8? FFS

Far from our best this year due to his stupidity and FAILING himself and the team.

Norman deserves no more than a 3 for his effort.

I am not saying he didn't play some great games for us - I am saying he screwed us through his OWN stupidity which showed contempt for his team mates, the jersey, the coach and the fans.

    • Razor how do you rate Semi over Scott?

    • He sat out basically half the season Capt through his own stupidity, that has to be taken into account.

  • cheers mate, there's no gain if you can't be realistic and balanced in self appraisal....only disappointment. the upside is that i wouldn't expect many names to deliver a worse number next season so we can only improve + we have 800k of talent to add to hopefully make the players even better as a whole.

  • Pretty accurate scores imo mightyeel, I like your bit on Wicks, I agree he stops at the line and lacks any kind of footwork making him an easy target which allows him to be dominated. I would take Mannah over Wicks any day of the week but strangely quite a few on this site would go the other way.

  • Bit harsh on a couple of players but all in all fair assessments.

IDG deserves a higher ranking imo. I know we have all had a bit of a whinge about him but he never went missing in any game he played. 7/10 based on commitment to the team.

Robson came in late but also never shirked his duty.
