Player Ratings: Eels vs Sharks (R21)

Maybe 1Eyed is getting soft in our old age but we handed out five nines for the 30 to nil thumping of the Sharks, as more Eels run into incredibly impressive patches of form. Jarryd Hayne was brilliant again but for many Joel Reddy was just as good. His partner in crime, Eric Grothe had a blinder as well and Nathan Cayless led from the front almost cracking the 200 metre mark. Again, like last week, it was high scores across the park and the side is really performing well as a unit as their outstanding defence implies. 1. Jarryd Hayne - 9 I think its fair to say that no Parramatta player in the last 20 years has had such a rich vein of form as Jarryd Hayne is in at the moment. He scored yet another nine as he combined 250+ metres with 10 tackles breaks and two tries. What else can you say? 2. Luke Burt - 8 Luke Burt is living proof that having a brain counts for something, especially on the wing. You can just count on Burty to take the right option and his goal-kicking was magnificent, which will be a relief to all Eels fans 3. Krisnan Inu - 7 Didn't get a lot of space on his side of the park but maintained good involvement. 4. Joel Reddy - 9 The try he scored was just freakish and his defence was again outstanding. His form dropped a little last month but he's back playing at his very best again, having now seemingly fully adjusted to playing in the centres 5. Eric Grothe - 9 Grothe's contribution in bringing the ball back on our 2nd and 3rd tackles should not be underestimated. He starts the roll forward, which is making life so much easier for our men up front. Played a hand in two tries and is playing in career-best form at the moment. 6. Daniel Mortimer - 7 Didn't play the full eighty minutes but always looked a threat. Kicking game was a mixed bag 7. Jeff Robson - 7 Put in some quality kicks although a few of his passes left a lot to be desired. Once again, did his job. 8. Nathan Cayless - 9 Has bounced back to form and fell just short of the 200m mark after whacking the ball up some 22 times. Is truly leading from the front at the moment 9. Matt Keating - 8 Played the full 80 minutes and came up with a try assist from a clever kick to Luke Burt's wing. Usual quality performance and he really controlled the game well for Parramatta from dummy half 10. Fuifui Moimoi - 7 The Sharks appeared to have a game plan to try and nullify Fuifui. They always had a lot of men into the tackle and made sure to get out of the line quickly to meet him. In some ways they succeeded, as his metres were down on his recent standout performances but I think doing so took a toll on the Sharks defenders and created more space for the likes of Cayless and Wright 11. Nathan Hindmarsh - 8 Very heavily involved and the Sharks just found it impossible to ground him at times, as was seen by his 4 offloads and 4 tackle breaks. 12. Joe Galuvao - 7 Usual whole-hearted performance from Joe 13. Todd Lowrie - 7 Continues to make his critics eat humble pie with another quality performance 14. Kevin Kingston - 7 Good game against his old club and he was his usual busy, threatening self 15. Broderick Wright - 8 Produced his best game at the top level. Wright's a real worker but also displayed a fair bit of flair with a couple of quality offloads. Possibly the only bright note of the day for the Sharks is that they would have seen that their getting a quality forward from us for next year 16. Ben Smith - 6 Couple of errors early on in his performance but he continues to provide great value off the bench 17. Tim Mannah - 7 Didn't get a lot of game time but he made some really strong runs when he was on the park, racking up over 11 metres per hitup from his seven runs

  • does anyone know why mortimer didnt play the full game?
  • Apparently Ando sent Mortimer home to Orange for a few days before the game just to freshen him up a bit. Ando believed the wear and tear of first grade was starting to effect him a bit and he hadn't been his usual enthusiastic self for the last coupple of weeks around the team.

I would assume once Ando could tell we wern't a threat of being beaten in the game, he took Morts off just to not risk injury plus hopefully he will be more fresh for a big week at training. Smart move imo.
    • Yeh he's done remarkably well backing up week after week. That might be a way for Ando to give KK a break actually. Leave Morts out for a week and bring KK in, and let he and Robson battle it out to see who stays in the side.
  • Its great to see Grothe bounce back this year after a tough 2008... he's formed a pretty deadly combination with Reddy .... Well done Eric!
