Player Managers... Dont always need them

With the movements and contracts debarcles the last few years, how good are Player Managers for the game? I know of a few players who handle their own contracts as a family. My family is taking the same road, currently negotiating a contract for my 15 yr old brother. Let me tell you these guys are down to earth and im enjoying the ride.

  • They arnt good for the game but they are good for the players thats why they use them, even after giving them 7-10% the manager might have got them and extra 20% so the player comes out in front and has somebody to handle his shit.

At 15 its ok to have your family manage things, and if youve smart people negotiating the contracts, some dont need managers but id think most players would find and advantage out of having a shrewd manager who is in the game with contacts in every club.

    • Agree mate.... of course players will always need them in most cases. The way they are starting to assert their power is a talking point. However, I see the value of that to the players. I can see huge advantages in having a shewd manager, with a handy reputaion. I cant wait to be a part of the otherside. Nice guys, pure football loving people eventually get there too haha
  • Do we have have anyone here associated in any way to this profession?
  • Yep, already sort of started been in the process of going over a proposal and my brother really wants me to manage him. He has been approached by no less then 30 but has said no.
  • Managers/companies*
  • I manage quite a large stable of Rodeo riders. They predominantly work the pacific Northwest.

This is my best rider, his name is Buck Naked.

  • Parraforlife, i would be banning any player manager from the game until players reach 18 or so yrs old. I do not get why kids need a manager so young. It has become a farce; i have known certain private schools to attend a state govt school Rep trial (without authorisation) in league, for kids aged 11-12, and then send scholarships out to these players chosen, all to get them into their school, which is mostly affiliated to a certain club in another entire area....kids do not need a manager at 15 and need good parenting.

  • Having said that mate, I am concerned about Krams cheeky reply...it is a worry and think all player managers need a huge risk assessment and child working with children check.
