Melbourne Storm star Cameron Smith has been issued with a warning notice for an elbowing incident with Leeds hooker Matt Parcell in the World Club Challenge on Friday.

The NRL handed down the decision after the match review committee was concerned Smith's actions could have escalated into further serious foul play, despite referee Gerard Sutton taking no action.

Smith was reacting to a tackle where Parcell lifted Smith off his feet and drove him into the turf.

A concerning act letter is often sent to players for actions which aren't considered enough to warrant suspension.

An NRL spokesman confirmed a letter was sent to the Melbourne Storm on Monday.

Ironically, if Smith was suspended he would be unable to play in his testimonial match alongside representative teammate Johnathan Thurston when the Storm play the Cowboys at Suncorp Stadium on Friday.

Smith has played 362 games for the Storm but did miss the 2008 NRL Grand Final against Manly due to suspension.

Just goes to show how much of a joke the people over at NRL HQ are.

  • Is anyone really surprised???  Thus grub has been allowed to do as he pleases for over a decade.

It's all so he can play his BS rort game with his butt Buddy Thurston, more money for a couple of millionaires.

While our club gets bent over whenever the NRL feels like it.

  • Very harsh indeed.
Couldn't possibly suspended the greatest one ever.
Its not like he murdered anyone
  • Maybe bad juju or karma will catch up with him in the testimonial match :)

    • Can we do some sort of ritual K man. I'll bring the voodoo doll and goat's blood. You bring the gimp mask and kiwi feathers.
    • If anyone ever deserved a career ending injury it's this POS. Just ahead of his mate Slater.

  • Well, there's a surprise. I love the fact that he smacks Parcell in the back of his neck with an elbow and then actually receives the penalty... for the supposed dangerous tackle.

It really has become laughable how much this prick and his club is catered to. He has somehow managed to craft this image as a butter-wouldn't-melt-in-the-mouth upstanding face of rugby league looks like a mild-mannered accountant guy - even after the bloody cap scandal and his two contracts he remained Mr Bloody Nice Guy. Makes me sick. The reality is he is a cheating manipulating grub. Grub in the play the ball, grub wrestling, grub in relation to contract(s), passes backwards about as often as Tom Brady and stands actually on-side in defence about the same amount. Regardless of how good that team may or may not have been in recent years, one can only wonder what the records would show were they (him mainly) refereed like every other team.

Very few things in life I passionately hate... but he (and Melbourne Storm) are one of them. The very sight of him just makes me want to break stuff. I watch their games with fingers crossed for a serious injury. I know... shouldn't wish that on people... but there are exceptions to every rule - he is one of them for me.

    • Well said Will, and I feel the same way about the Kcunt

    • Bahahahaha - that is probably the funniest and truest thing I've read on this forum (<;

    • spot on Will

    • Beautifully put Will.
