Pirtek could ditch Eels

PARRAMATTA'S major sponsor Pirtek is now free to end its support of the club thanks directly to this week's demise of embattled CEO Paul Osborne.

The Daily Telegraph can reveal the company's deal contains a get-out clause that allows it to quit should Parramatta Eels undergo a change of CEO.

Osborne tendered his resignation to the board on Monday, despite being cleared by an internal probity investigation into his financial management and dealings with staff. Ironically enough, the investigation was launched at the behest of Pirtek boss and former Eels director Glen Duncan over a month ago.

Duncan quit the board in opposition to Osborne's conduct and has voiced his disapproval publicly on several occasions since standing down.

He has, however, vowed that Pirtek will see out the final two years of its sponsorship deal in the wake of Osborne's resignation.

But should the get-out clause be exercised, Parramatta would endure a financial blow as the club has bankrolled its own merchandise with the company's name prominently displayed. That product would be worthless without Pirtek, leaving some Eels officials understandably wary.

But most within the club are also confident of being able to attract alternative backers, given the Eels' popularity.

  • Gotta love that they had a get out clause in the event of changing CEO's, yet Duncan was the one calling for the grocery swipers head not that long ago!

    Hypocritical much!

If Pirtek was to exercise the clause, surely the club could sue for the merchandise outlay through breach of contract? Sounds like another media beat up of an abortion of a week for the Eels. What's next a stadium closure forced by an outbreak of SARS in the pie oven?
  • Annnnnnnd another Pirtek related article

  • The Telegraph have made it clear with this article that they really are the bunch of muppets everyone knows they are. This is one of the most hypocritical things I've ever read. It's a beat-up, nothing more.

So what they're saying is that Pirtek were unhappy with the CEO so now that he has resigned and Pirtek are happy again, they might quit the deal? Speculation at it's worst!

  • Was Ozzie the real problem or was it Pirtek.  Should there be an investigation into Pirtek!

  • Bring back DUX

  • Pirtek are 1 company , if they leave it is their loss , the eels corporation has done wonders for their business and promoted pirtek in a way of pride .

Pirtek would be crazy to lose this partnership . IN FACT I HOPE IT CREATES A LONGTERM CONTRACT  BETWEEN THE TWO PARTIES .

  • THERE SHOULD BE AN INVESTIGATION AS TO WHY WE HAVENT WON A GRANDFINAL IN 26 YEARS ,  I did my research and the answer is this - The eels club are too busy worrying about every other issue and not concentrating on winning the title , so the answer is forget this crap and get on with winning the grand final that us fans are waiting for .

    • well said max................post of the year

  • Ho hum......I think James Hardie have some money left over from compo payouts

  • Let us punt Pirtek and get Viagra on board.

The focus is a full game of football - stay harder, for longer!
