Piggy goes to the Chooks

The Sydney Roosters have snuck under the guard of the Wests Tigers to sign Mark Riddell for the 2011 NRL season.Riddell, who has spent the past two seasons in the English Super League with Wigan, returns to the club where his career began in 1996 playing SG Ball and then Jersey Flegg.The experienced hooker has been signed to a one-year deal as a replacement for new recruit Anthony Watts, who will miss the majority of next year after damaging knee ligaments at training.Wests Tigers were poised to pick up 'Piggy' Riddell as a back-up to captain Robbie Farah.However, Tigers coach Tim Sheens had warned the former Parramatta and St George Illawarra star that he could end up playing reserve grade if he signed, with Farah an 80-minute hooker.Roosters coach Brian Smith enjoyed a good relationship with Riddell during their years together at the Eels, and said the 29-year-old would prove to be a smart buy."Mark is a great player who can bring a lot to the club," said Smith."He has plenty of experience and will fit into our system here well. We are looking forward to him starting."Riddell said he was happy to be returning to the club after his time overseas."I am looking forward to the challenge of playing in the NRL again," said Riddell."I established a good relationship with Smithy while I was at the Eels and I am very happy to be joining up with him again. Jason Ryles and Anthony Minichiello are also great mates of mine so I'm looking forward to playing footy with them as well."Riddell will undergo a medical examination on Wednesday, before commencing training on Thursday.

disappointed hat we have all his money left and we couldnt offer him a small one year deal. like said he could be a smart buy ha can play hooker, 2nd row and as an interchange. As we dont have an established hooker (eg farah) he would be good buy. we have the cash why not bring the pig back home for a yr. whats the worse that an happen he retires or plays lower grades for a year and we have they money nxt yr.
