I just saw on the daily telegrath that phil rothfield is calling for cayless to be stripped of his captaincy and give it over to Hindmarsh or Burt. I think its pretty sad because he hasnt even been our worst forward on the field there have been alot worse forwards then him this year and i know hes getting a bit old but hes still doing the tough yards for us and Hindmarsh hasnt really done too much this year. Burt would be ok but it would be hard to lead the team because hes out on the wing. Anyway just like to hear your opinions

Also i also saw that mateo has been offered a $400 000 contract from warriors and the best we can offer him is $230 000 and if grothe is also able to stay he will have to take a paycut because were struggling to find money to pay jor Hayne and Mortimer's contracts

  • Mateo = Gone. Trust me the guys gone. If he were staying we would have already signed him. You can tell he is disinterested and Ando doesn't like him anyway. He isn't in our future plans and we aren't gonna play him at 6 so why would you pay more than $200K for a 13? Can we swap him for a hard hitting workhorse second rower or prop? I am sure other teams would love to get him so lets trade him now. I like the guy a lot but hes playing crap because he is not loved and not being used properly.

Cayless = Bench and accept a 1 year contract next year for less than 100K. Right now he is a robber taking close to 400K this year but we cant get out of his contract and it was one of those McHappy deals when Fitzgerald was running the circus. Well done Caylo for cashing yourself up, smart man, i would have done the same. The guy tries he just doesn't have it in him anymore but could fulfil a bench role well because of his experience and would like to see him win a premiership with Burt and Hindy they deserve it. He also needs to hand over his captaincy right now early in the season. Suggestions?

Grothe = Gone. Guy runs like a bull but his defence is pathetic and he has cost us so many games. I would use him as a running forward off the bench and get him off the wing. We have plenty of backs to cover and i think Robbo has only stayed on the field for his defence covering up Grothes inabilities. Ando did this last year and it was a smart tactic that worked most of the time. He is worth 100K but i don't see him taking it. We need to beef up our forwards and use Inu or Jonno Wright on the wing who wont be a defensive liability.

Bottom line is we have the team to win it if we put the right guys in the right places. I believe our poor start to the year is 100% related to player unhappiness, it is blatantly obvious. Mortimer probably wants to know where he is going to play, KK has been left out in the dark and either needs to take over at 6 or 7 or why are we keeping him and Hayne, Inu and Tahu are ready to do their thing behind a set halves pairing. They are not firing because our halves are choking and just throwing them the ball and saying cmon do something. Their is no flow, no set plays no nothing and that is where the cohesion is lacking. Mateo wont give you anything if he is not in our future plans so if he isnt forget him and make a trade or something now.

Top priority right now is fix the halves, tell all other players EXACTLY what their number on their back is and what their role is, sort out whos staying and whos going and tell these boys to fire up. We need structure and we need a leader. Hayne is the leader but needs some structure to play behind rather than playing the hero role every game. When he does it he wins us games single handedly but thats not fair. He will be the most affective when everyone else supports him.

Once they do that the season will begin. Problem is this needs to happen right now not in a few more weeks before we get too far behind the 8 ball. Top 4 has to be the goal otherwise we will have to do too much work to even make the GF and fizzle again.
  • I think it's a fair call from a reporter - it's their job to ask the questions and report the stories.

The captain of the team has the added responsibility of making sure the whole team adheres to the game plan of the day and must inspire his team mates to a victory - do you really think Cayless is doing that? I don't at all. I'm not blaming him solely as the whole team is under performing - but as I stated he must try to turns things around as captain, and if he doesn't or can't anymore then we must find someone who can??
  • Yeah i agree with you adam about most stuff cayless is our captain for the moment and hindmarsh and burt deserve it from what they have done in the previous years but what rothfield was suggesting was giving it to a player in just as bad form as cayless hindarsh hasnt really been in the best of form. Burt has been in good form but i just think it will be hard to lead the team from the wing but defenitaly deserves it. And as for mateo and grothe would be good to keep them but the money could be used else where and i like the idea of downgrading cayless's contract because i believe he could be good off the bench
  • I said early in the year, around January I think, that I had a source with close links to the club who told me that Osbourne was not very confident of re signing Mateo even at that stage, but I was told by a couple of numptys that I was 'full of shit' - we'll see.

Regarding Cayless he is not a player who leads with a big hit or a big run but rather by working his but off. The players really respect him for that. I think he is getting paid too much but that is not his fault. He has been a tireless worker for parra and a good ambassador off the field - I say let him play his last season out as captain. I don't see a much better alternative leader anyway.
  • I read this article and think it is absolute rubbish.

For what its worth, Courageous Captain Cayless has been one of our most consistent forwards. Check the metres, check tackles, check whatever you like, all I know is that our wonderful Captain is once again been unfairly blamed. Justin Poore has been far less impressive and does not cop the flack that our Captain does.

Further, for all those that are suggesting that Hindy be promoted, they need to watch the game. Hindy has been one of our worst performers this year and I think it is ridiculous to even consider replacing one of our best, with one of our worst.

Final point - I think Cayless as a leader is undervalued because he isn't as loud, vocal or animated as other Captains. Leadership is about far more than yelling. It is about setting an example and that is what Courageous Captain Cayless does each and every week. I am always so inspired by younger forwards like Timmy Mannah talking about how much of an inspiration our Captain is. That is what leadership is about.

P.S. When has Phil Rothfield EVER written anything worth considering!
  • Well said Tinkerbell, and just to add who the hell does Phil Rothfield think he is??, his words hold no sway what so ever at Parramatta, and majority of people think that his dribble rantings are crap anyway.

Phil Rothfield , like most other reporters are story tellers and myth makers, just look at Womans Day they broke the story of the century 2 mnths ago, about Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt breaking up ,but a week after the breaking news it was proven to be the crap that it was.
Reporters are like a used milk carton - they need to be disposed of before they stink the house out, because they make everyone sick.
    • Womans Day..WTF!

      Rothfield needs to STFU.

I think all Rothfield stuff should go into our trash section. We can then let Stiffler and Stiffler's Mum (Parra Eels/Parradise/Chops) run rampant. Maybe Parra Eels is in fact the real Brett Finch. Didn't Finch have the hots for Stiffler's mum in the American Pie movies!
  • Yes, I agree!

Cayless just cops it because he is ,well, Cayless. It doesn't matter how many times it's been reported that he is not on 400k, that crap still comes out. So many people have these pre-conceived ideas about him and just won't let it go or be open to anything else. He has been going better than Fui and Poore, but Fui never gets a mention.

I honestly think there is dis-harmony in the camp. I reckon some of our new signings and big re-signings has torn the team apart mentally. Our big big dollar signings, are just not cutting the mustard. Poore, Morts and Tahu are not delivering and Hayne is still struggling with some aspects of his game. Then you have KK & Mateo still waiting for deserved upgrades but there just isn't any money for them.
  • What everyone needs to remember is that Cayless' contract was such that he sacrificed the big dollars early on in his career to receive it at the back end. He should not be criticised for this as he has earned it.

And to call for his sacking is an absolute joke - his stats are in the top 1 or 2 in each area for the forwards at the moment - there is no justification to this.
