Having a conversation with a mate last night about sites ( LinkedIn and FB were the topics ) which got me thinking about this topic .Just who exactly on these pages has access to our IP addresses and how far does the access go ? Also what legal commitment do they abide by in not sharing or discussing anyone's details ? Not just us site but others I visit it's interesting to know what's going on behind the scenes when you're opening a page . Are we legally opening flood gates to people you've given access to to see how deep into our details ? This's isn't questioning the morals of any of our site mods , I've found the current ones to be fair and honest people however after a discussion it has me curious . Do they have a legal obligation not to share our details with other members / outside companies , anyone they want to ?Who's moderating other sections of the site ? Cave , chat , groups ? Do they also have access to our details that we don't know of ?Can other mods of other Ning platform sites also visit here and see people's details ?my mate was telling me that there's a fair bit of info that can be got through IPs and it got me thinking about all the sites I visit and exactly who sees what and their legal privacy obligations ?I couldn't find this info anywhere amongst the site rules etc .

  • Interesting Wiz. Stay out of my business .
    • Haha I'm not into anyone's business . It was just a pretty in depth convo ( drunkish at that ) with a mate who kinda knows his stuff . He brought it up with a few stories about Internet security and it got me thinking about a number of sites I frequent ( cue the jokes ) this being one . I have zero idea these days other than two or three people , who has access and is moderating segments of the site and how far does their reach go and what obligations to us as visitors do they have with our privacy ?
  • Only administrators on this site can view IP addresses. That's myself, Phil and one or two other mods. I believe you are protected by the Australian Privacy Act given the site is hosted and owned in Australia. In the backend I can only view your IP address if you have made it available (anyone using a VPN blocks me from viewing it) and the email you used to sign up to the site.

There are different levels of mods on the site, only actual site administrators can view the backend. Cave mods and chat mods can't view that information.
    • Cheers Soop , So who are these mods across the segments and who are the other administrators out of curiosity .
    • Without a warrant to serve your ISP, they aren't going to get personal details from your IP address.

If you want to remain anonymous on this site you create a new gmail account to sign in with, then you can not use your real name on the site and also not use your photo in your avatar.

As mentioned earlier you could use a VPN to access the site of you really wanted to.

I think there are a lot more "everyday" websites that collect more information on you than this site does.
  • I don't know regarding who has what access. As the site owner Phil is best placed to answer that.
    • You don't know who the other mods are ? Don't you guys have quarterly catch ups at Midnight Delight ? But in all seriousness you don't know ?
      • I know who the other mods are, but I don't know what access they have. Miatch and Patsy have mod privileges however I'm not sure what level of access they have.
  • Shit I hope they cant find out who I am.

Or they might find out that I`m an illegal immigrant, who has overstayed his visa, I live with my three wives, in a housing commission, they are all on single mothers pensions, while I work in a fish and chip shop for cash.

Surely the mods cant see my details or I`m screwed.

"I did modern day as 1998 onwards as I didn't see them play, as some here haven't. Where I believe majority of people here have seen all the modern day players play.
Plus it frees up some spots like we all know who 5/8 will be but now no idea."
