Penrith already written up

We are dreaming!

Penrith v Melbourne GF

Penrith wins it. Sure bet unfortunately. We just don't have the back line atm. Ours forward pack is probably the best In the comp in my view. Our back line is one of the worst.

Penrith are by far the best side across the pack since the Broncos in the 90s even better than Melbourne with the big three.

We are two C/W short. BA needs to attract them to the club or get out. Clubs only have a 3-4 year window and we have been up since 2019.

  • Not sure our forwards are that good. But the most disappointing part about all this is we are in our premiership "window" and are still a bad team.

    • That's the thing Nitram, because there are so many poor rosters in the Comp, The Eels squad is comparatively not too bad. Realistically, how many of this current side would even get on the bench at the Storm or Penrith?

Often, some mad (and desperate for success) Parra fans over-rate our players or overlook their weaknesses. Eg, Wakka Blake, we know his defence is rubbish but really his whole game is poor. In attack he mainly steps back into the defence & rarely breaks the line or even bothers to look for his winger. He plays at reserve grade level. Players such as RCG, Paulo, Nathan Brown, Moses, Gutho & Mahoney are touted by some as being in the frame for Origin selection. For mine, on current form, only RCG deserves a start. Paulo looks like he is carrying a sternum injury.

I think our "premiership window" already had a lot of cracks in it & the fade that happened in the second half of last season looks like it is about to be repeated. Also, the draw for The Eels in the last six rounds is not a pretty sight. From round 20 we face Roosters, Souths, Manly, Cowboys, Storm & Penrith.

  • Sorry dont agree with your comment" our forward pack is probably the best in the comp"

Last night the souths ball runners regularly met our forwards and gained yardage carrying 3 "defenders" with them after impact but reversed our forwards were meeting the souths line and stopping as if hit a wall.

I am sorry but our forwards are SOFT

    • Firefly, you would be amazed if you read some of the post-game player ratings on TCT. As long as a player comes up with some version of a "highlight package" play, soft or ineffective defence is given a leave pass. Snake calls this type of analysis The Little Golden Book of Rugby League.

It's not only the poor first up contact in defence though, Lane & Matterson in particular are lazy and/or are very slow to slide. Mahoney tries his heart out & sure, 50 odd tackles is impressive, unfortunately he doesn't have the frame to dominate the bigger middle forwards. Paulo is carrying a sternum injury & should be rested.

      • Eric, I think Lane has been bludging for a long time. Seems to me the players have all settled their contracts so the team stops playing. Same happened last year when BA  re-signed the team stopped playing.

I consult nrl.com for post match stats and how is it that possession is calculated 53-47% to souths but time in possession adds up to 51m 18s. who had the ball the other 29minutes. Are we really losing that much time in a game.

I take no notice of tackle counts, if a player flops he gets a tackle to his name, its bulltish

        • FE, the missing 29 minutes might have been Moses & Arthur running sideways with the ball?

Lane had a reasonable patch of form in 2019, he's been less than ordinary since then. Along with the human overlap Wakka, he should not be in the 17. A club-hopper like Matterson should not be given a player option contract.

          • I think it was Lane last night slow to break from scrum in 2nd minute and cook was already in.

  • They can get the plaque made up with either the Panthers or Storm, the rest are wasting their time.

  • Our forwards are playing with 20kg back packs. They get absolutely hammered in attack constantly running one out. It's insane. They have zero petrol left for Defence. There's some talent in the forwards but it's not being used effectively. Our backs can't do much when we're not playing off momentum.

    • Time for a new game plan Brad. We've been playing this style for a few years now and everyone knows what to expect from us.
