Penisini upgrade

Parramatta Eels outside back Will Penisini has today signed an upgraded contract with the Club to ensure he is part of the NRL Top 30 squad for the 2021 and 2022 seasons.

The 18-year-old joined the Club in 2016 playing in the U14s development team.

He played his junior football with the Rouse Hill Rhinos and has played in the the Eels’ Harold Matthews and SG Ball teams.

The outside back has also represented NSW in the U16s and U18s State of Origin representative games.

Parramatta Eels General Manager of Football Mark O'Neill said, "Will is an exciting young prospect who has progressed through our elite pathways program at the Eels.

"Will is a well balanced individual who is not only a great cultural fit, but has trained very well in the pre-season and deserves this opportunity.

“Will’s inclusion will no doubt inspire many of our young talented players within our Pathways to strive for similar opportunities.

"We look forward to watching and supporting Will’s continual development both on and off the field in the coming years,” O’Neill said.

  • They must be big on him

  • Does he start in jennings role now? Or tommy still gets the nod? Will be an interesting team list tuesday next week...

    • Opacic will get first crack 100% I do expect a debut from Penisini before the end of the year though

      • Get rid of Blake. Keep Opacic and Penisini

  • He will get an opportunity. Opacic has never made it through a season without injury. In saying that,I wouldn't be waiting for injuries, I would throw him in early maybe against a struggling team and see how he goes.Best man gets the gig for the last month or so going into finals. He may be exactly what we need.

    • If they actually make the finals.

  • Won't be surprised if opiacic holds his spot and waqa or fergo get a spell at some point.

    • Same here. Penesini looks to be an x-factor player which eels lack as shown by our lack of solo tries since Semi Radradra left. Waqa Blake looked promising to be our strike centre but is yet / has not delivered.

    • same here fergo will definately get a break at some stage.

  • What a great bit of news !
Will is an exiting prospect that's for sure.
I'm hoping however that Opacic can stay healthy and in form for the year.
Michael Oldfield and Haze Dunster should be considered before Will.
I trust that the coaching staff will guide this young man through a full season of Canterbury Cup and debut him in 2022.
