Penalties and Points

I was impressed with the lack of penalties as a whole in the Eels/Brisbane game. It was a match where the referees were virtually invisible - a refreshing rarity.8 penalties in all and 21 points for the game.The other games have yielded 20, 17, 16 and 16 penalties in total, compared to 8 in our game, and this has resulted in a lot more points.The Parra/Brisbane game was a good example of how minimal penalties allows the match to work itself out. It was a lower scoring game, but I felt the absence of needless penalties (plus our good defensive attitude) allowed for a fairer contest.If penalties do indeed equal more points, then the NRL need to look at finding the right balance. The game could use a few more arm wrestles.

*apparently 7 penalties in our game, not 8.

Perhaps 8 penalties showed 2 sides with good discipline? I'm hoping that's the case as it was a key aea of focus for us.

But it was a penalty after 10 minutes of Broncos hammering us and getting nowhere which gifted them the field position and first try , when the broncos player launched into Takarangi as he was attempting to release from the tackle for mine should not have been a penalty, and felt to me like the ref just wanted to break the stalemate. No try there and who knows maybe a whole different ball game.

  yeah that was a harsh penalty in context of the game for mine. Penalty was for hand on the ball but the refs always pick and choose when to apply that one
