Parramatta upgrade offer to Gutherson

Parramatta have put in an upgraded offer to skipper Clint Gutherson to keep him at the club beyond 2019.

NRL.com understands the Eels, who held a recruitment and retention meeting last Thursday to discuss his future, have decided to up the offer they originally put to Gutherson before Christmas.

The Eels decided last week that they would revise the original offer, however wanted to wait until after Sunday’s match against the Raiders before tabling the new deal.

The club on Monday made contact with Gutherson’s manager, Sam Ayoub, who is expected to meet with his client in the coming days to discuss the new deal.

The Eels, whose original offer was around $500,000 a season, have been impressed with Gutherson’s start to the season and believe their desire to keep him at the club is reflected in the new multi-year deal.

  • I wonder what the offer is.

    • Possibly more money!!!

    • Blue Eel: Clint Gutherson can meet with the Eels #1 fan, Robert Lloyd, any time he wants. That will attract any player. Of course, it will cost him some money: I have a family to feed!

    • Fong would probably know, oh thats right i forgot hes banned!

  • I hope it around 700,000 or more because he worth it

    • no 600 k max

  • I seriously wouldnt increase the offer! I dont think Gutherson is a leader and to be honest IF he was to injure himself again as he did not long ago his career would likely be done and dusted! He wasnt that great against the Raiders and I wouldnt be overly disappointed if he was to go elsewhere.

    • Rubbish Monto. He embodies everything that the club aspires to be, the knee injuries are of no concern, the future will take care of itself. He has been in our top 3 every week, including last night and he is growing into the leadership.

      He is a must keep.

      • Another Knee injury Brett and Gutherson's career is all but over! I admire his desire and drive but at the end of the day the Eels havent won a premiership since 1986 and they need players that are strong without suspect injuries that could see them sidelined indefinitely.

        • All we can do is speculate as to the probability of re-occurring injuries. I'm assuming management are seeking medical advice and doing what is appropriate.

"The likelihood of 2 long term injuries at the same time to both of our hookers is pretty low.  It would be hard to entice an NRL experienced hooker to come and play reggies for us with no prospect of first grade save for injury to both topliners. …"
