Parramatta's Resolve

There's something positive that I'd like to focus on. In doing so I will acknowledge that there are many aspects of the Eels performance that need to be corrected, especially related to individual decisions and ball retention.Nonetheless, the greatest positive that I have witnessed, not just last night but in the last 3 weeks, has been the determination exhibited towards the matches.Where has this come from?In my opinion it has been the work of the forwards.Apart from a few moments inspired by Segayaro and Cartwright, the Eels forwards won the ruck last night with great line speed and aggression. This effort has been similar in the last 3 weeks. I am going to credit Peats and Watmough as being crucial to the line speed and aggression. But I don't want to focus on individual efforts in this. That's for the in depth type blogs. I also don't want to focus on what can be done better. Plenty can be. I'm focussing on effort. In a previous blog I wrote about the rest of this year being the greatest challenge. This is because it sets the mental attitude platform for next year. I am under no illusions about achieving some sort of miracle for this season. I simply want to see this sort of resolve in the game each and every week, regardless of the result. I want to see the boys put in for themselves and each other. That will give me greater faith in what can be achieved in the future. At a time when our backs are against the wall, when the media is throwing all sorts of garbage at us (and continued to do so through Johns and Fittler last night) it felt great to see a determined Parra on the field. Just keep it coming.

  • I agree Sixties they have been on a mission the last few weeks led by the forwards in the main, & are a tad unlucky not too have won 3 in a row. We still have a few too many mistakes in us & the refs in the 2nd half must of remembered who they had their money on, but I don't think you can question our resolve at the moment & we are building. We haven't been flogged once this year & I honestly don't think we will
    • Thanks for the response Empire. We could go into aspects of their game that must improve. At the moment I'm interested in attitude when their backs are against the wall. Our attitude has been hard to fault in the last 3 weeks. Yes errors have been the issue. But last night, when Penrith had the glut of possession and the penalties and points flowed, we turned it around as soon as we got the ball. That spoke volumes for me.
    • I agree & that should do wonders for their confidence, there will be some smiles on their faces at training this week & they badly needed that. Away from home, everyone writing them off, the 5 penalties in a row to bring Penrith back into the game, yet they still walked away with a victory now that's the type of win you bond & build on
    • Believe increased effort has come thru bigger forwards being added to pack, starting 3 weeks ago. Honestly believe would have won those first 2 matches if Sandow had been halfback.

  • So you would say that they have improved on last year in this facet?
    • I believe that we have. You can't compare to last year without mentioning the elephant in the room. If you add Hayne to this team, how many more wins may have been generated? Would we be in a comparable or better position to last year? I don't want to turn this into a blog involving Hayne. I'll simply say that I believe that our forwards are playing tougher.
    • I think we're doing really well in so many ways. We're too good a side to be coming last. Hopefully we can string some wins and some confidence together.
  • On the money sixties.
    • Cheers mate.
