CANTERBURY might have their T-Rex — but Parramatta fans wouldn’t swap their Semi Trailer.
The Bulldogs’ Tony Williams is a wonderful sight when in full flight, but the Eels own wrecking ball Semi Radradra is sure to trample over at least one rival at ANZ Stadium on Friday night.
The hulking Fijian scored three tries on the left wing in the club’s opener against Manly, and caused the Sea Eagles all sorts of troubles in defence.
While the 22-year-old is unlikely to ever realise his dream of playing Origin — and following in the footsteps of Fijians Jarryd Hayne, Petero Civoniceva and Akuila Uate — because of eligibility rules, starring in a Friday night blockbuster against a bitter western Sydney rival is the next best thing.
It was former teammate Hayne of all people who gave Radradra his moniker.
“Haynsie was the first one to mention the name, but I don’t mind it. After training one day, he called me Semi Trailer, and I thought, ‘sweet’,’’ Radradra said.
Eels coach Brad Arthur has always been aware of what Radradra can do with the ball in his hands, but it was more what the bearded beast produced in defence.
“The thing for Semi is he can score tries, that’s great, but he has to be able to stop them and do his job defensively and show more energy in defence,’’ Arthur said.
“He was spot-on other night, and we highlighted that to playing group in our review during the week. We want him to score tries, but he also has the job to defend.’’
