Parramatta Fullback Isaiah Iongi selected for Tonga

New Parramatta Fullback Isaiah Iongi has been selected in the Tonga squad for the upcoming Pacific Championships. Iongi makes the squad after 1 NRL game in 2024. Iongi has represented Tonga in the under 19's level, playing Five-Eighth. This will be Iongi's senior International debut. It will also give him some experience and confidence going into pre-season. Only issue would be he would join Parra pre-season late, but with Moses in Test duties and Brown recovering from the ACL injury, doubt he would have much time with the core spine until December anyway.

Meanwhile, Parramatta Centre Will Penisini was not named due to injury sustained in the win over the Wests Tigers in Round 27.

  • We will get a preview of his ability at least.

    • He has Koula and Hopoate in front of him, but hopefully he does get a game. It would be Parramatta's luck he misses a bit of pre-season for nothing, gets no game time. Experience of being around the squad is fine but playing is much more effecient.

      • It would be our luck if he gets injured more like it.

      • Tonga seem light on in the halves, he might be there to play 6

  • Koula will likely wear no.1 but hopefully Iongi gets some game time

  • At least it puts to bed his knee injury in his last match for Penrith.

    • Definately Chief. Great news.

    • He played 80 minutes in that game so it can't have been too serious.

  • Looking forward to seeing this kid play.

  • Tonga squad have a cracking squad, wouldn't be surprised if they upset Australia or NZ
