Parramatta Eels five-eigth Corey Norman has successfully appealed his convictions for two drug offences.

The 25-year-old playmaker pleaded guilty and was convicted of  possessing a prohibited drug and possessing a prescribed restricted substance earlier this year.

Norman was found with MDMA capsules and the muscle-relaxant prescription drug Diazepam after the group of men he was with were stopped during a routine metal detector search at The Star casino in May.

Security footage also captured a man giving Norman a white plastic container while dining in a private room at The Century Restaurant, according to court documents.

Norman put the container in his pocket and later handed it to another man, who scattered the contents in his hands and passed an item to a third man who swallowed "something small".

He was not recorded taking any substances himself.

According to the court documents, when security officers later searched Norman they found a number of tablets and he told them they were MDMA.

At a sentencing hearing in the Sydney Downing Centre Local Court in July, Norman's barrister asked that a conviction not be recorded arguing that it was his client's first court appearance and there was "no doubt" about his remorse

Although the prosecution did not oppose this, Magistrate Michael Price recorded a conviction and fined Norman $800.

Norman, who was suspended by the NRL for eight matches over a range of indiscretions including the drug convictions, a police warning for consorting with criminals, and filming incidents involving apparent drug use and sexual activity, appealed on Thursday.

District Court judge Mark Williams set aside the convictions and the orders that had been made by the sentencing magistrate.

Despite his troubles, the Eels recently resigned Norman for three years.
