PARRAMATTA playmaker Chris Sandow admits he would be “shattered” if he had to leave the Eels at the end of next season.

Off contract at the end of 2015 and under pressure to perform, Sandow knows the new season will be a crucial one for his NRL career.

“I like what I see here at Parramatta with all the guys coming through. I just want to be a part of it because I know Parramatta’s going somewhere,” Sandow told NRL.com.

“If I do leave and go to another club and the boys do go good, it’ll shatter me. That’s why I’ve been training my arse off. I want to stay with the boys because some of the boys do have longer contracts than me at Parra. But it’s up to the club and Brad (Arthur) if they want me to stay. I’m going to try my best to get a new contract here at Parra.”

Sandow knows he can ill afford an inconsistent 2015 — not just for himself but for the team.

For the first time in nine years, the Eels are without their superstar fullback Jarryd Hayne following his departure from the game to pursue a career in the NFL.

A senior member of the Eels roster, Sandow has made the conscious decision to keep a closer on eye on his waistline following Hayne’s departure.

Legendary former Eels halfback Peter Sterling has been critical of Sandow during his time in blue and yellow.

Early this year, Sterling called for the Eels to release Sandow, yet despite the criticism, the chirpy playmaker remains unfazed.

“Sterlo’s got his own opinion,” Sandow said.

“He’s his own man. It doesn’t bother me, what he says. He’s a great of the club, but I’m my own man.

“I’m Chris Sandow. I’m from an Aboriginal community. I play my own style of footy. I don’t really care what Sterlo says.”

  • I hope we resign him and get Foran and resign ZDC to we must keep him

  • I hope he stays I have come to Luv him
  • If we sign Foran I can not see us resigning Sandow. BA likes players that can play to a structure and sadly Sandow does not fit the bill.

    • Wasn't a driving force of aurthur signing with Hayne? Hardly your typical structured player.
    • Driving force with us sorry.
  • Gota resign him who can you get to replace him ???
  • In full form Sandow is easily one of the best attacking halves in the NRL. The problem is his consistency and his defence. It makes it hard to push for a top 4 spot, let alone a premiership, when you dont know what you are going to get out of Sandow each week.
  • With that being said, unless we can sign DCE, i'd be keeping Sandow. He'll be on a significantly lower value contract if he re-signs and top-level halfbacks are hard to come by.

Foran, Norman, and Matterson (possibly 2nd row) are 5/8's only and I see ZDC's future as a hooker where he's played all his juniors. So there arent many other viable genuine halfback options available to the eels.
  • Even if we do get Foran, I'd much rather see him partnered by Sandow over Norman.
