Parramatta Eels Extend Four Players

Parramatta Eels extend four player contracts

The Parramatta Eels have extended the contract of Wiremu Greig for the 2023 season, while Makahesi Makatoa, Ky Rodwell and Ofahiki Ogden have extended their contracts until the end of 2024 season.

Parramatta Eels General Manager of Football Mark O’Neill said, “We’re really happy to have these four men be part of our team, they have shown their commitment to the Eels through solid efforts in pre-season training.

“All four players have their best football ahead of them and we believe that with our coaching, and in our Eels environment, we will see this occur.

“The quality and depth up front with our middle forwards will not only provide competition for spots, but also ensure we are well covered in case of any interruptions throughout the year due to Covid.”

Wiremu, Makahesi and Ky all made their debut with the Eels last season. At just 22 years of age Wiremu was selected in the New Zealand Māori’s All Stars team earlier this year, while Makahesi, a Cook Island international representative made his NRL debut in 2021 and will continue to build upon his powerful form last season.

Ky also made his NRL debut in Round 25 last season where he broke his hand early in the match but continued to play. All three players add great depth and power to the team.

Ofahiki initially joined the club on a train and trial basis in November 2021 and has been upgraded to a development contract for season 2022 and extended as part of the NRL squad until the 2024 season following an impressive pre-season with the NRL squad.

  • Maka only re-signed til 2023 a month or so ago, good on him for extending further. All of these are great re-signings for depth in the future, all competition.

Though wish the signed Greig til 2024 but oh well i still think he is the pick of the bunch. With Moretti in the club now too i think more and more competition will be added.

  • This is great news for everyone. I can't imagine any of those would be overly expensive either. I'd imagine Grieg maybe has eyes on a big contract upgrade in his future.  I hope he can show the form that will make that happen for him. Nice work all.

    • That can be bad too Mutt, rather have him rapped til 2024, could move elsewhere for 2024

Though I do feel Rodwell is being groomed to be Brown's replacement at Lock

      • I'd say we tried to do that. As we've learnt it's tough to keep quality for unders. If he's worth an upgrade we'll have to pay.

        • Yeah we would have but as you said maybe eying a World Cup birth perhaps then push to start in 2024

Paulo and RCG signed up til 2025 minimum so of course not gonna be full time starter anytime soon

      • Rodwell's going to need to add a pass to his game if we're looking to him as a lock.

      • I don't think he has the natural talent to be a lock LB, I think the way they are now developing we will see a new style lock, Murray, Mattingly styles....actually I think Materson is a very natural lock and place him into the game in a away that we maximise his size and skil level.i.e making him more involved.  Adding Materson there could make him a star IMO. He has to get into the game more and centering there I could see him getting man of the match awards, his 5/8 background actually gives him a really good grounding. Nathan Brown's future will be rotation of the bench as a middle I believe.

  •  Good news. Our forward depth is secured for a few years. Hopefully these guys will continue to develop into very good first graders.

  • Great news - very happy about these extensions.

Ky Rodwell played with a broken hand? Lock this kid up that's one tough ombré and the type of player you build a forward pack around.
