Parramatta Eels announce new Captain

The Parramatta Eels are thrilled to announce that halfback Mitch Moses has been appointed as the new Captain of the Club.

Moses was officially unveiled as the Captain during a special internal Club event, in front of players, coaches, staff, Club legends, and his family, to mark the next chapter of leadership for the Eels.

Joining Moses in the leadership group for 2025 are Junior Paulo, J’maine Hopgood, and Jack Williams, providing Moses with strong support as he steps into this new role.

Since joining the Eels in 2017, Moses has consistently proven to be one of the team’s most reliable and impactful players. His passion, dedication, and work ethic have made him a natural fit for the captaincy.

“I am incredibly proud and honoured to be named Captain,” Moses said. “This Club means so much to me, and it’s a privilege to lead this group of players. I have great support around me from the leadership group and coaching staff, and I can’t wait to start the season with them in a few weeks.”

Head Coach Jason Ryles praised Moses’ leadership, noting his ability to inspire and drive his teammates at training and on the field.

“Mitch has shown strong leadership qualities both on and off the field, and I believe he is ready to lead our Club into the future. With the support of our leadership group, I’m confident he will continue to grow as a leader,” said Ryles.

Parramatta Eels CEO Jim Sarantinos said, “Mitch has been an outstanding player for our Club, and we are thrilled to see him step into the role of Captain. Mitch’s appointment is an important moment for the Club as we move into an exciting new era for our football program.”

Moses, an Eels junior, made his debut for the Club in 2017 and has played in 225 NRL games and five Finals series. He was named Dally M Halfback of the Year in 2019 after leading the competition for try assists. He joins an elite group of players scoring over 1000 points in his career.

As a representative player, Moses starred for the NSW Origin team last year earning Player-of-the-Match honours in Game II. He also played a pivotal role in the Australian team which claimed the Pacific Cup title.

Moses also captained Lebanon in their 2017 Rugby League World Cup campaign and has represented the Prime Minister’s XIII, World All Stars, and Australia 9s.

The Eels are excited for what lies ahead under Moses’ leadership as the Club enters the 2025 season with renewed focus and determination.

  • Great news and definitely ready to lead the team around, also heard on SEN radio that JAC is eligible to play for round 1

    • Great RE Moses. But I'm pretty sure you're wrong on JAC, he will miss the first 2 rounds due to suspension. He just got 1 game discounted off the suspension, he was meant to be back round 4, now he'll be back round 3 vs Canterbury.

      • Okay missing 3 is okay, sets up a great game v the dogs ! Can't wait! The built up will good.

    • Yep he'll be back round 3. We got the bye in round 2 so we should be sweet

      • Dont think the tigers will be a bye this year 😂

  • Very good. He was a pseudo captain on occasions anyway. Hopefully he can tone down his on field arm waving etc and gain more respect from refs so they are a little bit unconsciously sympathetic towards us a bit more often.

  • I'm glad Paulo not captain anymore..Last 2 seasons - he couldn't lead a horse to water..Williams is interesting though. This means he is in the 17 each week or stater. Backrow or prop🤷‍♂️

    • Paulo is still part of the leadership group along with hopgood and Jack Williams.

  • Let's hope Mitch tones down acting like a little whinging bitch on the field now that he is captain.

    • Exactly this, I think he is the right choice bur he does need to learn to stay calm instead of carrying on.
