Parramatta Eels' $2m to sign Jarryd Hayne for life

"THE Eels are one step closer to snaring Jarryd Hayne for life with Parramatta CEO Paul Osborne yesterday opening negotiations on what is expected to be a $2 million deal.Sport Confidential can reveal Hayne and Osborne met at Parramatta Stadium where they began discussing a four-year extension which would keep the game's most gifted fullback at Parramatta until 2014.Hayne is off-contract at the end of next year and several NRL rivals are ready to pounce after the 2006 Dally M rookie of the year's stunning State of Origin campaign. But we are told Hayne is keen to stay at the Eels and is expected to sign off on a new deal by the end of the month. It is understood the Eels are willing to offer Hayne a deal worth about $400,000 a year, reflecting his standing as arguably the game's most exciting player.Hayne last month said he would be happy to ignore offers from other NRL clubs should the Eels come up with the right deal."Fantastic news. Although only in the early stages, it seems Ozzie will have Hayne at the club for the rest of his career.I like this bloke.http://www.news.com.au/heraldsun/sport/nrl/story/0,27074,25895368-14823,00.html

  • I like this bloke too. Let's hope this story is on the mark - $400K seems maybe less than he could get elsewhere, though Ozzie has already proven that he is pretty good at dealing with the media. Although some of the statements he issues seem to be jumping the gun or talking off the cuff, there usually seems to be some method to his madness.
  • Whatever he's doin... He's doin right!
  • Is 400K per year enough? I know he's not a half, but fullback influence in todays game is huge... I reckon we should be offering around the 500k per season.
  • You say 400k but it's over 5 years must people would probably offer only 3
    • thats what im thinking, what if he plays crap and we've wasted all this money on him
    • that is the risk u take with any young player. i think hayne has shown more than enough promise this season to eliminate any doubt that anyone may have had.

he has more natural ability than any player in the world.. resign him for as long as possible! by next year he will be the Australian fullback! :D
      • Fully agree. He's only going to get better to be frank. He's only 21 and he's only really getting his body in order now. With more experience I think he'll become an even more important player from a playmaker perspective and the way the game is played now, I'd rather have my gun player at 1 than seven.

You base your team around a player like Jarryd Hayne.
        • Jarryd Hayne will continue to get better, aslong as he keeps his head right. IMO that is the key fo him to keep improving as a player because physically at 21 he isn't fully developed, and ofcourse he will only get better with the more first grade matches he plays, as he will learn to read the game better with this experience.

Aslong as his head stays on his shoulders, Jarryd Hayne has the ability to become anything. Honeslty if he keeps up this form until the end of the season, the selectors will have no choice but to select him at fullback for the quad nations.
  • I like the confidence... I hope so! :-)

The article says "Eels are willing to offer Hayne a deal worth about $400,000 a year" - which to me reads as they are hoping to sign him at around 400K per year- I agree, work up and i hope they do. I hope they are not be prepared to just stick around the 400K mark - this guy is a freak!
  • Give the Chosen One whatever he wants, he bleeds blue and gold.
