Buzz Rothfield - Daily Telegraph - THEY may have missed out on Tom Burgess, but Parramatta have secured a key piece of their future after locking down coach Brad Arthur to a longer-term deal.

Arthur has signed a two-year contract extension, tying him to the Eels until the 2021 NRL season.

“When you have a someone of Brad’s quality in your club it makes perfect sense to secure that person for the long term,” Eels chairman Max Donnelly said.

“A key factor in our decision is Brad’s drive and commitment to the improvement of our club on and off the field. He is always looking at taking our team to the next level and it was essential that he be part of our club’s plans going forward.”

Arthur has maintained an incredibly strong face throughout his time at Parramatta amid the endless dramas to engulf the club.

Despite a heavy injury toll to key forwards, Manu Mau, Nathan Brown, Tepai Moeroa and Kaysa Pritchard, and the late departure of half Corey Norman, Arthur’s men have still won  matches to place them sixth on the ladder.

“I have been proud of the way our team has managed to front up week in, week out and that comes down the accountability we have shown to each other, the club and our fans,  We have the most inexperienced spine in the competition, yet we're still managing to compete with the best of them” Arthur said.

“It has been challenging time but it’s time to focus on the great opportunity we now have to take our club in a positive direction.”

  • April fools?

  • Im not a fan of this early decision, but for mine it seems the club has turned the corner on recruitment and retention, and it seems Arthur has been left to solely concentrate on coaching.  I'm led to believe recruitment has been taken out of his hands.

  • Chief, you have way too much time on your hands

  • Hail BA. Congrats

    • O yawn wake me up when it’s April 2

  • Nooooo

    • Definitely true.

  • Max Donnelly is no longer the Chair. Your usually better than this Chief.
