Parra's size policy..

Over the years I have seen / heard that Parra haven't selected certain players that have more than made it at other clubs.I've had limited experience in junior rep football where young blokes who are very large bodied (predominantly not exclusively Islanders) are picked based purely on physique, where smaller, maybe less physically mature bodied kids are not.I believe an astute coach, scout, selector should have the ability to see through this and see if the budding player has 'footy' in him..Recent examples such as Paul Gallen (we all know the hearsay), Luke Keary, Mitchell Moses, Moses Suli were all at one stage in the Parra system yet allowed to leave and (with the exception of Suli) have gone on to be good first graders.Size, whilst giving confidence doesn't necessarily give be you heart. I mean people can say what they like about Gallen, but any man who can make the physically hardest play in Rugby League, of not world sport, has my respect (I'm talking of that first hit up off the kick off in Origin). You can't manufacture that, surely someone must have seen that 'kill' in him.You want will always get the big bopper who can play at that age and is always going to make (i.e: Tony Williams), but sometimes an eye for the intangible as opposed to the obvious is what's needed.I'm interested in and ones thoughts on this.

  • Thought this was gunna be another Condom blog .
  • I absolutely agree, someone obviously saw something in Kaysa.
He is a tough little bastard.
  • So you are saying size doesn't matter?

  • If you look at weight and size Kaysa is as heavy or heavier than most hookers and taller than some or as tall as most hookers. People who do not want him are because he is not good enough not because of his size.

  • If size mattered than the likes of Langer and co would of never played nrl. As for Kaysa he has played more games than Jayden Baily and he has already shown more talent than Kaysa and can play 80 minutes if required.

    • Langer never played for Parra
    • Fair enough
    • When Langer played the average prop in the NRL was also about as big as Cooper Cronk . Langer was brilliant , but I highly doubt you'd see too many blokes his size competing in the modern game .

Using Langer as an example of why Kaysa can works a little funny . It's like saying that Jeff Robson can be an immortal because Wally Lewis was bald .
    • My Wally's bald...
  • Never said he did, only used him as a size example.

"How is it a lie? We take up his option in the top 30 and then the coach plays him where it best suits the squad? If that's reserve grade perfect.  If its not then it means that Doorey, Moretti, Brown etc haven't kicked on the way we'd hope. Plenty…"

"Would love to see Barnett at the Eels.
He's the closest player defensively to Beau Scott in the current game (imo), and those players are so few are far between.
They are so valuable to the defensive line & structure.
Obviously would be preferable…"

"The contract is there, it's up to us what we want to do but if JBD has a decent year we will keep him.
Ryles won't keep De Belin to be in Reggie's. He won't play Reggie's. He would either retire or try to get another deal. I love this idea of it's…"
