Parra, Penriths little brother - Mark Riddell

A DESIRE to make Parramatta strong again has prompted former cult hero Mark ‘Piggy’ Riddell to run for the Eels’ leagues club board this week.Riddell, who played for the Eels from 2005 to 2008, is worried by the direction the Eels are taking – particularly when compared to arch rivals Penrith.“For years we (Parramatta) were big brother and they (Penrith) were little brother,” Riddell says.“Now it seems it is the other way around.“They got to within a game of the grand final last year and have a great crop of kids coming through – the likes of Matt Moylan, the Jennings boys, Waqa Blake, Dallin Watene-Zelezniak and Bryce Cartwright.“They are clearly a club on the way up and they are working to a plan.“I can’t see the same plan in place here at Parra and it is a concern – we have to plan for the future and build a strong team.”Riddell believes current coach Brad Arthur is the man to lead the club forward.“I will endorse him – the players like him and he seems to be the right person to rebuild the place.”Voting for the Eels board will be held this weekend – but you must be a member of the club for at least the last three years to be eligible to vote.http://rugbyleagueweek.com.au/i-parra-great-again/

  • I'm assuming this is just piggy trying to put the club down to get votes??
  • RUBBISH article....how is piggy gonna do anything?

he has to reveal how !

  • RATFLMAO. Motherhood statements is what Piggy Riddell is on about. Unfortunately he and his cronies at 2P don't tell us how they are going to return the club to its former glory.
    • Why would they? Be stupid like the current board who promised top 8 first year top 4 second year.
    • To be fair Jimmy, they have stated that they will comply with their legal obligations, and refurbish the toilets.
  • Doesn't take a genius to figure it out I guess haha
  • Apt Ron
  • I've said this before. I'll all for strong debate in the election period. Riddell is entitled to make his opinions known. I like it when I hear candidates talk.

But this is what disappoints me - a statement like 'I can't see the same plan in place here at Parra...' which is not true. There is clearly a plan - Scott Seward talked about the plan a lot when the Kieran Foran signing was announced.

If you want to convince me to vote for you please don't treat me like a dill. I'm an informed fan. I'm not a footy genius, I'm the first to admit that. But I can see the plan - the creation of a team with a mixture of skills, strength, experience that is built for long term success. It's a slow burn. This year will not be our year.

Also, the statement that he will endorse BA and that he's 'the right person to rebuild the place' are at odds with criticism that there's no plan. BA is the current mastermind. If you don't like the current plan then you don't like the way BA is doing his job.

You don't sit on the board to coach the team. You sit on the board to be accountable to members and give support to executive staff and the coach.

    • Nutcracker, you articulated that perfectly.
I too am disillusioned with broad statements that basically piss in the wind
    • "We don't have the same plan as Penrith". No we don't, we are not building a nursing home, we are building an entertainment precinct.
"Endorses BA as coach" but all his other comments are how low we are on the ladder. So HOW exactly are you changing this Piggy? WHAT is YOUR plan?

"Some players need to get sacked from a club and risk losing it all before they really knuckle down and put in the work.  Why did he get sacked, was it lack of discipline for footy and training or off field issues?"
